Online classes have become the new normal due to covid-19. And it does not seem to be changing anytime soon. And yes, it is easy to slack off because you are not in a formal school setting but there are some ways that will make you motivated and concentrate during your online class.

Setting Up Your Working Spot

First thing to do is to set up a designated spot for your online class, a desk is preferred. Put on the desk what you would normally bring to class and nothing else, so it creates the illusion that you are in class. So, what you will basically need in your designated spot is a computer (obviously), your note and textbook, a panicle case, a water bottle, and maybe some snacks if you need it. Now you will need a relatively quiet spot where you won’t get distracted by family members.

Talking about distractions, you will want to eliminate them completely so your full attention is on the class. This means turning your phone off (Or on silent), Not having any hand help gaming consoles nearby, turning your tv off and placing the controller away from your work area. Just basically turn anything that you think will be a distraction off and place it away from your designated working spot. This will help you to keep focus and tentative.

Before Class

Now before you start the class make sure you have done the required readings and/or questions before the class begins. This is important to do because while in class if you made any mistakes or don’t understand something you can make note of it and go back to it after class so you can understand it better, which will help you when it comes to tests and exams.

During Class

During class it is important to listen to the teacher and follow the required tasks that you are required to do. Ask questions when you are unsure of something and participate in class discussions. Don’t worry about being wright all the time, it is class you are meant to learn so you are not expected to know everything and that is okay. When you participate in class discussions it makes the class more interesting. Look at it this way, if you are having a conversation with someone and they are the only one talking it gets boring and you would want to leave asap, but if you are both contributing to the conversation it becomes more fun. And this is why it is important to participate in class discussion, as you are more likely to pay attention to what is happening in the session.

After Class

After Class you should go over your notes and make a list of the key words and create a definition for it and a diagram if needed. This is an easy way to summarise your school notes. I would recommend to have a book for class where you take all of your notes in class (very obvious) and a sperate notebook to summarise your notes so it is easier to revise for tests and exams as the notes will be easier to navigate and it will be neater than the notes you take during class. I would suggest leaving a few pages at the front of the book to create a table of context and number your pages so you know exactly where the information is going to be, and you can find it in an instance. It is also important to work on topics that you don’t fully understand after class because it is important to understand all of the material because you will never know what is going to come up during tests and exams. You can either ask the teacher after class to help clarify or you can do your own research, whatever works best for you.

I hope that you have found this guide useful, and I wish you all the best in all of your classes.
