Online writers are constantly looking for ways to better their writing. They do so to engage and build trust with their readers. Good quality content also improves a writer’s brand and can earn him/her more revenue. This begs the question, how can writers better their online writing? Here are steps to writing persuasive content online:

Understand the audience. Whether writing an academic paper or a Facebook or Instagram post, online writers should adjust their writing to the needs of their target audience. They should know what the audience is interested in before they start writing. This would make it easier for the writer to tailor their material to the wants and needs of the audience. Online writers should establish audience interests, level of education, and tone that resonates with them.

Great headline. A good article must have a great headline. Great headlines seize the attention of the readers and engage them. The headline is the first impression to the readers. It determines if readers would start reading. A great headline also enables the reader to transition from the headline to the main article, it also builds a connection with the reader. Articles with great headlines are the ones that are mostly shared. Headlines should be short and clear.

Keep the Interest of the readers. Grasping the attention of the reader is not enough! The most important thing a writer can do is to maintain the interest of the reader by having great content, this way readers will keep reading and might even share the article with others. Good content meets the needs of a reader. A writer can do this by telling a story and by using a conversational tone that builds a connection with the reader. A great headline with poor article content is equally bad!

Write for scanners. Most online readers do not read the entire article they scan through it to see if they can find what they are looking for. If they find it quickly they will keep reading. Writers should therefore put their most important content at the beginning of the article. They can also use images to communicate, and use bullet points and short paragraphs that are easy to scan through.

Use Simple Language. Online writers should write using simple language; this is because most readers read articles that use the language they understand better. Writers should avoid using difficult vocabularies and complex terms, they should rather choose simple words and short sentences. Online writers should also use polite language. Their writing should be simple and clear. This enables the reader to understand the online content better and thus, avoid confusion. The simpler you write the better!

Make content search engine-friendly. SEO is essential for online writing. Online writers should use pertinent keywords consistently throughout their articles, but refrain from stuffing them. They should find the appropriate terms and phrases that their audience would search for and naturally weave them into their content. To uncover popular keywords in their niche writers can use programs like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush. Online writers should consider Putting keywords throughout the body of their material, including the title, headings, and meta descriptions.

Proofread after writing. Proofreading is the correction of mistakes in written materials before printing or publishing. Online writers must always proofread their work to ensure that it is free from grammatical errors, numbering errors, spelling mistakes, and other typing errors. Proofreading also enables an online writer to ensure that their article has the correct format from top to bottom. Proofreading improves the overall quality of the document. Writers should ensure that they proofread their work before publishing.
