• Plagiarism is not allowed on Vocal (and most places, but I digress). That is a fact.
• I share the rules and standards regarding AI usage and plagiarism on Vocal. 'Nother fact.

In looking back over my posts, articles, comments, and such I've come to realize that I've created a bunch of reference material, and slotted it into disparate Communities. Heck- I've even written a book about it, chapter by chapter.

It can be difficult to wrangle, so this will be a gathering place for all of it. Some may be new to you!

First Things First: The GUIDE

This was begun nine months ago, using actual Vocal 'stories' that were [and STILL ARE], unattributed AI-generated or assisted content published within a single day on Vocal.

All of the 'stories' are linked in the final chapter. As of this week all are still on the Vocal platform and are NOT attributed. (This means they are not in compliance to Vocal Standards. Repeating this for emphasis.)

The Guide is specific to content that is Fictional, regardless of the Community to which it was posted. In my opinion, Fiction is easier to confidently spot as unattributed AI. I am getting more educated on poetry and nonfiction, but am not confidant enough to teach anyone else. I have far to go, and as AI continues to educate itself it may be that I will never catch up.

Content About AI-Content and Plagiarism

This is the first piece I wrote about unattributed AI on Vocal. Unfortunately the AINGO boardgame wasn't accepted at the Shark Tank pitchfest, but this piece still has great content.

This is a poem I wrote when someone that only posted unattributed-AI content, often leaving their links instead of comments, or a cut-and-paste generic comment received 2nd place on the weekly Vocal Leaderboard for supportive comments.

This was written during the upswing of the plagiarism pendulum that strikes the Vocal platform occasionally. (It happened again last week when a Vocal Top Story was posted- word for word- by a new 'author' on Medium... one that was NOT the actual owner of the content. It was reported, and the Medium profile deleted.)

THIS piece was written a year ago in response to the MANY MANY MANY articles and YouTube videos about using AI to make BIG MONEY on Vocal.

Those stories, articles, classes, and videos have one thing in common: they are incorrect, filled with inaccuracies, and ignorant of the Vocal Standard that requires AI-assistance and outright AI-generated content to be self-identified by the 'creator'.

One reason I'm so fond of my little clickbait article is that it's among my Top 10 most-read articles.. and spent months as my #1 most-read!

The Actual Vocal Standard on AI Use

The Vocal policy on AI-Generated content was released a year ago and is even easier to follow due to recent updates on the platform. Here's the Policy:

(Note: Despite the comments I've read from Vocal writer/creators I respect, these new self-attribution tools aren't useless and ignored. I just did a quick check of Latest Stories, and 13 stories within the last hour have the AI-Generated label that the Vocal member self-assigned to the piece.)

I am a paying Vocal+ member, and also have chosen to be a (very small) investor in the Vocal platform. Receiving reads and meaningful comments is important to me, and only possible if readers interact with my content.

Clogging the site with unattributed AI-generated pieces pushes down genuine content, cheapens the experience, and is a needless distraction to platform writer/creators.

I believe AI is a tool, and I accept and understand that is is permissible on the platform. Adhering to the Standards to use it, to attribute it, is part of responsible usage.
