Alinagarer Golokdhadha Review
Alinagarer Golokdhadha Review: There's more to this mystery than meets the eye when Soham (Anirban Bhattacharya), a history student, discovers it while visiting his girlfriend Brishti (Parno Mittra). Can he figure out the mystery? What else will he have to go through to complete the treasure hunt?
The image of Kolkata painted by Alinagarer Golokdhadha is very different from what the city signifies to individuals who live there or visit. There isn't any whining about its past glory, no fighting to survive in the competitive metropolis, no political undertone to the story, and no nostalgia for the cultural capital. Yes, there is a script that discusses the historically rich city and presents a story that piques the interest of the inquisitive audience. The movie is meant to make you laugh and think, especially for people who love brainteasers and are proud of their hometown.
The plot revolves around a treasure quest that reveals secrets about Alinagar, the name Kolkata had before Siraj ud-Daulah took control of the city. The actors in the movie capture the excitement of a treasure hunt with their portrayals of authentic, convincing characters. Anirban is showing to be a great discovery for Bengali cinema that seeks to have the audience identify with the characters with every new film. You will be astounded by his effortless method of gaining insight into the character's motivations. It is expected of him to depict Soham, a straightforward and industrious youngster, with the utmost sincerity and meticulousness. Soham is Anirban from the opening scene. Every time Soham attempts to reason or solve a puzzle, he adds a little twitch to the center of his eyebrows. It's a small, inconspicuous action that has a big impact.
In a number of sequences, Shakhhi Gopal (Paran) and Brishti (Parno) exhibit a lovable friendship that lends the characters an endearing quality. Parno effortlessly portrays the bonedi bari daughter raised in a contemporary setting. She is Anirban's worthy mystery-solving partner, her father's sweetheart, and her sympathetic girlfriend. You're entertained by Paran's seamless screen presence. Ashutosh (Kaushik Sen), Brishti's father and the owner of a large estate, and Amirchand Mittal (Goutam Halder), the nefarious antique trader, are both well-portrayed. Kaushik is understated but has appropriate peaks. Goutam makes you wonder at his acting skills while giving you a strange rendition of the Rabindrasangeet, "Purano shei diner kotha." The tone of the rendition mocks Bengali feelings.
Director Sayantan Ghosal couldn't have chosen a better cast, and the narrative keeps you interested enough to not give up too easily. He provides you with a few straightforward, daily scenarios, but he makes sure you are thinking along with the actors as they attempt to solve the puzzles. The suddenness of the first shooting, which happens as Soham and Brishti are unraveling the mystery, will shock you—an essential element of a thriller. The slow-motion sections that depict Soham and Brishti losing their minds due to the murders they witness just as they are ready to solve the mystery need more editing to provide the appropriate dramatic effect. The lyrics should have been more impactful, even though the background score is good. Though it appears that everyone worked hard, the actors in the movie really shine.
