Fortunately, there are ways to manage depression. Here are 3 tips for managing depression:

1) Stay connected with family and friends. Reach out when feeling low or overwhelmed and accept support from loved ones. This will help provide a needed sense of connection in times of loneliness.

2) Exercise regularly. Regular exercise releases endorphins, or “happy hormones”. This can improve one’s mood and help manage mild depression.

3) Get professional help. Don’t hesitate to seek out a mental health specialist or therapist if symptoms become too overwhelming. Professionals give helpful insight and can provide counseling options to aid in dealing with depression and its effects.

Treatment typically consists of medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two. With the proper treatment, people with schizophrenia can lead productive and meaningful lives.
