Although several studies, even conducted by NASA scientists, most houseplants remove up to 87% of toxins from the air, filter pollutants and carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and regulate air humidity, improving and quality, these are adjuvants often neglected in the process of purifying indoor air.

Specialists recommend that every 8 square meters of the house there be a plant, given that the height of the room is 2.5 meters (from floor to ceiling), which means that it would take two or three "purifying" plants. ”, In a living room of ordinary dimensions.

Given the beauty and extremely interesting appearance of many of them, it will be a delight to fill your house with plants. What's more, some of them, to which we dedicate the entire article without any hesitation, are also true elements of cleaning and filtering the air naturally and at a low cost.

Don't get me wrong, all indoor plants (with or without flowers) are able to receive indoor air to some extent through their normal photosynthesis process.

However, some have been shown to be more beneficial than others in removing harmful toxins from the home by removing as much as 90% of the chemicals from the air, in just one, hold on for twenty-four hours! So why invest in expensive electric air purifiers when you can buy these few types of houseplants so useful ?!

So, instead of buying expensive air filtration systems, you better use plants. If anyone in your household has allergies, smokes, or just wants to breathe fresher air, choose the following plants:

1. Dendrobium and Phaeleonopsis orchids

Orchids have a bad reputation for being difficult to swallow, but this is completely untrue. Orchids, in fact, like to be neglected, and most people end up killing them with too much care - too much water and too much light.

In addition to being easy to care for, orchids absorb xylene from the air, a pollutant found in many adhesives and paints, so they are great gifts for someone who has just moved or renovated their home. In addition to many other planets, orchids breathe and remove oxygen during the night, making them perfect for the bedroom.

2. Feria

Ferns can also be kept in pots and are perfect for the home! It helps us get rid of air pollutants such as toluene and xylene, found in paints, adhesives, but also in nail polish.

3. Peace lily or Spathiphyllum

A tropical plant, extremely popular with flower lovers. Spathiphyllum loves to stay in the shade or in the shade and removes toxins such as acetone, ammonia, benzene, ethyl acetate, formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, trichloroethylene, and xylene.

4. The Philodendron

Philodendron is easy to care for, requiring very little attention. It is a beautiful plant that gets rid of xylene from the air.

5. Dracaena Massangeana

A plant native to Africa, it has an exotic look, wonderful for home decor but also for absorbing formaldehyde from the air.

6. Pothos

It is a plant that comes from Thailand and the islands of the Pacific Ocean, is climbing like an ivy, always green and easy to maintain. It can survive in low light at low temperatures and get rid of carbon monoxide and formaldehyde.

7. Flamingo or Anthurium flower

It is a beautiful flower but also very practical: it absorbs ammonia, formaldehyde, toluene, and xylene, so it is ideal for the office, especially if you are close to copiers, printers, or adhesives.

More ways to purify the air

If the plants described above do not fulfill their mission, it may be best to invest in an air purifier. Or, if there is more than one smoker in the house, you can use both herbs and an electrical appliance.

Following more research and solving problems on this topic, it was found that smokers tend to take "no" in their arms, disputing the fact that smoke could penetrate the walls.

However, the walls are so receptive to cigarette smoke that no matter how well you ventilate, it is impossible not to get soaked. Many people suffer from this problem, sometimes the smoke entering the children's bedrooms - a very sad aspect. People go so far that they prefer to move to get rid of this smell, but unfortunately, the same thing will happen in the new home for a while.

The trick is not to give up, but to create a small "project" to suck the smoke through an air filter. The air "leaks" about the same as water following the path with minimal resistance.

A little "improvisation" on the air filter will prevent the smoke from wandering through other cracks or holes in the walls. It is important to place the air filter on the common wall with another room or as close to it as possible so that the smoke enters the filter before it has a chance to float right under your nose.

Essential oils have been shown to eliminate odors from the air, but also to protect against environmental threats. The most popular essences for air quality are usually those of lemon (lemon or lime), lime, pine, lemon (citronella), melaleuca (tea tree), coriander, and others.

Essential oils can be easily diffused to confuse them with air. You can also add them to cleaning products, in the washing machine, or to create a spray room with distilled water.
