I have been doing a lot of research in regards to the business side of mushroom farming and I thought the information I’m about to share with my readers today should be publicized as it can help future mushroom farmers fulfill the market’s supply & demand of mushrooms anywhere in the world. First of all, let’s talk about the cost of materials that you will need in order to start a mushroom farming business. So, the items you will need can be bought from one or more sources but for simplicity’s sake, I will use amazon as an example. You will have to first get a pressure cooker which is going to cost about $100 or more minimum. Then you will need to get some glass jars preferably a 12 pack of 24oz jars (~$33), High temp Silicone (~$13), 100 Canning Lids/100 Rings (~$35), 50lbs of Whole grain/Rye grain (~$70, good for use on 33 24oz jars), 4 shelf storage shelves (~$119)

And that’s pretty much all you need to create substrate jars/bags.

On the other hand, you will need spore syringes which you can buy from one of my reliable sources for ~$10 for a 10ml spore syringe which can be tested towards 2 24oz jars and a homemade 500ml liquid cloning culture in 32oz jar (~$28/ set of 6), distilled water (~$1 or more), liquid culture premix (~$10), PTFE Magnetic Stirrer Mixer Stir bar (~$17), 128pieces Synthetic Filter (~$10), 100 pieces injection ports (~$7), 20 pack of 10ml/cc syringe with needle (~$15)

Simply put, once you have the pressure cooker, you will only need to worry about fruiting chambers or 6 pack +/- 53qt bins (~$100) you can use to grow mushrooms out of, growing medium such as 650g coir (~$3.75/brick), 29.9 quarts vermiculite (~$40), and black plastic sheeting (~$37)

Total cost: $648

Keep in mind that for every brick of coir is mixed with 8 cups of vermiculite when pasteurized in 16 cups of boiling water (water boiled at 150 degrees Fahrenheit for 6-10 minutes, stirring every 30-60 minutes then every 2-4 hours until cooled at 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit), and 500ml of liquid culture can be used on ~100 jars if 5cc/jar. Recurring buys will often just be on syringes/needles, jars/lids/rings, growing mediums, substrate (grains) and expansion (more shelves, bins and possibly leasing a warehouse if current space max capacity has been reached) assuming that you have environmental conditions taken care of (heater, air conditioning, misting system or spray bottle) then you should be able to start getting profits/revenue right away as soon as you’re able to successfully grow & sell your first batch of edible/medicinal mushroom and watch your income double/triple/more every 2-3 months!

For more information on how to use the pressure cooker to create your own substrate or liquid culture, pasteurization of growing mediums and how to do every step of the way from start to finish then feel free to check out the YouTube links down below.
