Houseplants serve a variety of purposes. Many level up the aesthetics in their homes by setting them up around their house. Like good books and comfortable furniture, houseplants have their way of pleasing an indoor environment. Other than levelling up the aesthetics of the place, some varieties of houseplants serve a greater and more important purpose, which is purifying the air we breathe. Some houseplants tend to absorb toxic air contents like carbon dioxide and give out more fresh oxygen that we can consume. There are a number of plants that can really help with naturally purifying air in your home.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an outstanding air purifying houseplant that you can grow in your place. It is a succulent plant that does not need much water for maintenance too. It has notable medicinal properties. It clears the air of harmful chemical constituents that come with floor cleaners and disinfectants. Aloe Vera produces oxygen at night while consuming carbon dioxide simultaneously and has also been proved to reduce air pollution indoors. Hence, aloe Vera promotes better sleep and can be kept in your bedroom.

Rosemary

Rosemary is a small herb houseplant that is commonly used as a culinary condiment. It can grow at any time of the year as it is evergreen. It needs no effort to harvest, you can easily grow them in your kitchen, it's no big deal. The olfactory properties of rosemary has a number of health benefits like improved memory and cognition levels. It enhances the mood and sustains a calm indoor environment.

Lavender

A sun loving, mind soothing and calming plant, lavender is best known for its aroma. Lavender is best grown indoors. It grows on sandy soil anywhere at any time. It also does not need much water and does not need anything like compost or fertilizer so it can’t mean a lot of maintenance. Studies have claimed that lavender helps with anxiety and has other benefits, like it relaxes the lungs and helps you sleep better at night. Lavender is also a great insect repellant. That is more than many reasons why you should really consider getting one for your home!

Snake plant

Snake plant is a houseplant that is commonly used as an air purifier and can easily grow in every climatic environment. It is widely known for its ability to remove toxic pollutants from the air. It is also capable of absorbing cancer causing pollutants. Although its long leaf blades are great for air purification, they happen to be toxic and poisonous when ingested so if you have children or pets around you need to keep the plants away from their reach. It does not need much water to live and indirect sunlight is best for their survival, explaining why it is a widely possessed houseplant.

Spider Plant

Spider Plants are noted for detoxifying the air of pollutants like formaldehyde and ammonia. They are easy to care for, require less water and can be hung up anywhere like it most commonly is. It is also non toxic, unlike the snake plant. It is one of the easiest indoor plants with regard to its maintenance.

It is indeed recommended that you keep the indoor environment in your place clean and healthy by using natural air purifiers like houseplants but, ensure that you are not allergic to any houseplants or herbs before deciding on getting any of the above suggested houseplants. Some plants might need extra care and nourishment like fertilization or disinfection to keep them alive. If you are worried about pests, there are insect killers for houseplants that you can get for your plants from sites like eBay.

Great list. If you have pets that like to eat plants, you should consider which ones are safe. Some of these can be toxic to dogs or cats.
