House of Dragon, S3, yawn

Game of Thrones was an enthralling HBO series with characters you grew to love, only to have the writers kill them off. I gasped aloud when Ned Stark was beheaded. His daughter, Arya, was a fighter and survived many challenges. Cersei was so evil I wanted to strangle her and her horrid son myself. She was so cruel and cunning, yet I felt sorry for her during her naked walk of shame. Tyrion Lannister was always fun to watch and see the scheming he did. Cersei was cruel to him, her brother.

The woman Brienne, who became the first female knight when Jaime knighted her, was a favorite with viewers for her unrequited love for Jaime.

The writing and acting in the series were good. The actors fit their parts, and for those of us who read the series, they were well chosen for their parts. Game of Thrones was paced well, and the beginning with Daenerys and the ending with her and Jon Snow shocked us.

Now we have House of the Dragon, a prequel. The first season wasn’t too bad, giving us the background on King Viserys and Alicent. But now I’ve finished Season 3. It's BORING. I’m sorry; many will not like me saying this, my daughter and husband among them, but it is boring. I want to see dragons fly and have characters that pull me in and make me like them.

I do like Rhaenyra for her strength, and I felt eviscerated along with her at the fate of her children. Some of the plotting pulled me in, but I find Season 3 boring, and I’m not alone in that. Now it seems they will wait until 2028 to give us the final portions.

I have to look away when the dragons are fighting or when a human is trying to kill one. Live, dragons, live! Fly away and don’t let the humans enslave you. Dracarys to them! (That means dragonfire in High Valyrian and verbally prompts the dragons to burn; you know, light when military movies say “light them up.”)

Alicent Hightower’s boys are the worst, and the weird witchy woman gives me the creeps. I don’t want to give away anything about the storyline here and spoil it for people. Everyone is marching toward everyone, and it’s hard to figure out who is on which side. Just know that Rhaenyra will need many dragons to win this fight, and Alicent’s boys are evil. She can’t trust anyone but Daemon, and can she really trust him? Who CAN she trust, and how will she hold her status as queen?

Many of the scenes are gratuitous baloney and don’t add to the plot, i.e., Helaena’s scenes. Goodbyyyeeee and good riddance is what I say. Two claps from me.

Daemon tries to help Rhaenyra, but she doesn’t know which way to go, and there are so many against her that she keeps making stupid mistakes. I can’t look any longer; it is frustrating. I yelled out that she should kill the high priest when she first spoke to him about the coronation. Her confidante, Mysaria, is perhaps a friend, but we all suspect she is not. After all, as they say, a whore is always a whore. Who will pay her the best is who she will go with.

They killed off one I truly liked: Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. However, another who needs to go is that damn Ser Criston Cole. Who does that arrogant little shit think he is? Ormond Hightower is a creepy bully, teaching a child how to be cruel, with the most horrid displays. I think the writers here decided to make this show over-the-top gory since they don’t have a big budget for CGI and flying dragons.

There are so many characters and dark scenes. I can’t keep them straight and must keep Googling the characters to follow the storyline.

So watch the show, see what you think. Season 3 was very boring for me. Just know that once you finish Season 3, it is a long wait for the next season. Maybe the writers will figure out something in between and save the queen, or get a bigger budget.
