MOVIE REVIEW :
"Vasantha Mullai" is a thriller movie set in the bustling film industry of Kollywood. This movie is a decent attempt to tell a gripping tale, but falls short of its aspirations due to a mediocre storyline and unrealistic conflicts. The movie follows the common trope of a young couple setting out on a journey to an isolated place, only to find themselves in a world of trouble.
The protagonist, Rudhra, is an IT professional who struggles with blackout disorder due to lack of sleep. His girlfriend Nita, who is worried about his health, convinces him to take a break from work and go on a trip to a hill station. They stay at a villa called Vasantha Mullai, but things soon turn from bad to worse. Nita suddenly falls ill and Rudhra sets out in search of an inhaler, only to return to an empty hotel room. He soon finds himself being chased by a masked man (Arya) whose intentions are unclear.
The story is full of twists and turns, with Rudhra and Nita caught in a web of mystery and danger. While the idea of incorporating a time-loop concept is interesting, the film ultimately cheats the viewer with a convenient solution. Bobby Simha is the saving grace of the film, delivering a powerful performance that keeps the audience engaged. Kashmira is also a standout, adding to the film's charm with her screen presence. Though Arya doesn't have a lot of screentime, he still manages to deliver a strong performance. The film's technical aspects are decent, if not great, and hold the audience's attention throughout.
In conclusion, "Vasantha Mullai" is a decent attempt at creating a thriller movie, but the lack of depth in the story and the convenient resolution leave much to be desired. Bobby Simha's performance and the technical aspects of the film make it worth a watch, but it falls short of being an immersive, nail-biting experience
However, what the movie lacks in storytelling, it makes up for in atmosphere. The setting of the hill station and the villa, Vasantha Mullai, add a layer of mystery and intrigue to the film that keeps the audience engaged. The tension is palpable, and the scenes featuring Bobby Simha, Kashmira, and the masked man are well-staged, adding to the suspense.
Another standout aspect of the film is its soundtrack. The music complements the mood of the film, building up the tension and adding to the eerie atmosphere. The cinematography is also noteworthy, with stunning shots of the hill station and the villa that leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
In conclusion, "Vasantha Mullai" is a decent attempt at creating a thriller movie, but the script and story leave something to be desired. However, Bobby Simha's performance, the stunning visuals, and the atmospheric soundtrack make it worth a watch for fans of the genre. The film may not be a classic, but it is an okayish attempt that will keep you engaged, if only for a while. If you're looking for a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this might be the one for you.
