Jessica Ross is a young American woman who went to a hospital in Georgia to give birth in 2023. Sadly, instead of receiving her son as she had hoped, she received a deceased child whose head had been severed from the rest of his body. The doctor claimed she chose to decapitate the unborn baby as a way of saving the mother.

Now, this case has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner's office.

The Beginning

Jessica Ross is a 20-year-old woman from Georgia, United States. She is a stylist and is married to 21-year-old Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr. who has a career in hospitality. The pair were so excited about the hope of being parents that they named their unborn child Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr. because it was going to be a son.

Pregnant Jessica and her husband, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr.

However, this hope never came to fruition with the pregnancy Jessica was carrying. It was on the evening of July 9, 2023, that Jessica went to a hospital in Riverdale, Georgia, the Southern Regional Medical Center; she was in labor.

The labor that began around 8:40 pm became complicated when the child's shoulder got trapped in the mother's pelvis. In medical terms, this is called shoulder dystocia.

The Southern Regional Medical Center

The doctor in charge of the delivery, Dr. Tracey St Julian, is an obstetrics & gynecology specialist with over 27 years of medical experience. She delayed taking Jessica to the theatre for a C-section when she saw that the baby's shoulders were trapped. This should have been the next thing to do, but she instead continued to try vaginal delivery, when it was almost impossible for the baby to come out through the birth canal.

Dr. Tracey kept trying to deliver the baby vaginally until the head came off. According to official documents, "She applied ridiculously excessive force" on the baby baby's head. To deliver the rest of the baby, the legs and the torso, she took Jessica to the theatre for a C-Section.

This is what shoulder dystocia looks like.

In medical practice, doctors can make some quick decisions to save a patient when the condition is critical. For instance, doctors can remove the uterus of a pregnant woman who presents to the emergency with severe bleeding to save the mother. However, they must obtain consent from the patient or the patient's relative before such life-changing decisions are made.

In this case, Dr. Tracey covered everything up. She didn't seek consent from the parents before going ahead to decapitate their child and after the rest of the baby was delivered through the C-section, the hospital put the parts together and propped the head onto the body to appear like the head was still intact. They discouraged the couple from getting an autopsy and instead advised them to have the baby's remains cremated as soon as possible. They were not even allowed to see or hold the baby's body.

Three days later, the couple found out about the tragic state of their dead son's body. This information got to them from the funeral home.

In August 2023, the couple filed a lawsuit in Clayton County court against the hospital and Dr. Tracey for the negligence and malpractice they displayed.

On February 6, the Clayton County Medical Examiner's office ruled the death of the baby, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr. as a homicide.

According to the available autopsy report, the baby sustained 'fracture dislocation with complete transection (to the) upper cervical spine and spinal cord.' The cause of death according to the report was shoulder dystocia, arrest of labor, and fetal entrapment in the birth canal.

In the lawsuit, the couple is asking to be compensated for the suffering and death of their baby and for the physical and psychological trauma Jessica went through.
