In December 2019, Jeet Thakur Sahai was called to a police station in Noida very close to Delhi. His friend Inspector Amar Tendulkar worked there. He told Jeet he needed some help with a case.

Inspector Amar: “We are investigating a double murder in Noida. An old lady, Mrs. Savita Kaul, was shot two nights ago in her apartment. A young professional, Mr. Mayank Awasthi, was stabbed in his house last night. It may be that these cases are connected. My colleagues have started investigating.”

Jeet: “Thanks Inspector Amar for letting me know. Can I please see both the crime scenes?”

Inspector: “Yes, I shall take you there. I will be leaving for the first crime scene in the next five minutes.”

Inspector Amar and Jeet went to Mrs. Kaul’s apartment. After an extensive search they could not find anything there. They then went to Mr. Awasthi’s house. Inspector Amar and Jeet started searching.

After a while Jeet found a torn boarding pass underneath a table. He could read “A. Kaul 35 D Jet Airways Flight 392” on it but the other part was missing.

Jeet and Inspector Amar returned to the police station. After further investigating they found out that Flight 392 was from Mumbai to Delhi nine days ago. One of the passengers on the flight was A. Kaul. His full name was Avinash Kaul. By checking with Jet Airways Jeet found out the address of Avinash Kaul in Delhi. Avinash used to live in Dwarka. Inspector Amar and Jeet went to Avinash’s house and questioned Avinash.

Upon further questioning it was found out Avinash had met a passenger Neeta Awasthi on the plane. She was Mayank’s wife. Neeta was very upset with Mayank and wanted to divorce him. She told this to Avinash. Avinash told her that she was very angry with his aunt Savita as she did not plan on leaving any inheritance to him in her will. Throughout his life he was very close to his aunt and his aunt was fond of him as well; Savita did not have any children. A few weeks ago Savita had told Avinash that she planned to leave all her money to a favourite charity of hers as she was passionate about its cause. Avinash was upset hearing this from her but did not show any emotions. He told Neeta that he would like to murder his aunt Savita. Neeta said that she wanted to kill Mayank. They ensured that they talked quite softly on the plane so that other passengers could not hear them.

Avinash said that if he murders Mayank for Neeta and Neeta kills Savita for him, then it will be very difficult for the police to catch them. They planned this joint murder and mentioned they would never be in contact again.

Two nights ago Neeta went and murdered Savita by shooting her. Last night Avinash went to kill Mayank and stabbed him. Mayank’s living room had a faint light so Avinash could not see properly as he attacked Mayank. However, before there was a minor scuffle in which Mayank fought him. Avinash had forgotten that he still had his boarding pass in his shirt’s pocket which was torn and fell during the scuffle. After he stabbed Mayank he ran out of his house leaving Mayank bleeding to his death.

Based on this information, Inspector Amar contacted his colleagues who arrested Neeta at her parents’ home in Ghaziabad. They lived in Vasant Vihar Colony. Inspector Amar and his colleagues would continue to collect more evidence against Neeta and Aviansh.

Cases against Avinash and Neeta would start in court in a few weeks.

Inspector Amar thanked Jeet for his help in this case. Jeet mentioned he was glad to help out. Afterwards Jeet returned to Delhi so that he could rejoin his office the following day.
