Dubbed the Czech Aileen Wuornos, Jaraslava Fabianova brutally murdered four men between 1981 and 2003. Like Wuornos, Fabianova had a horrific upbringing that included sexual abuse. She was abandoned by both of her parents at a young age which caused her a lot of heartaches. She attempted to cover up the pain at age 13 when she joined a local group of teens who committed petty thefts and burglaries. They also delved into sex work. She first began sex work at about age 12, later turning to sex with men to earn money to support her life with her girlfriend.

The Murders

All four murderers were financially motivated, the first occurring on October 20, 1981. Victim Vladimir Z was stabbed more than 20 times after he was bludgeoned with a hammer after refusing to pay for her sexual services. Fabianova also stabbed the man in the face with a stitching awl.

Police charged Fabianova with Vladimir’s murder but she was sentenced to only seven years in a juvenile facility because she was a minor. She was released after serving four years at the center.

The second murder occurred five years later in 1996. Fabianova invited a man named Mr. Tibor, a Hungarian tourist, to her home for drinks. He accepted the offer. Immediately after arriving at the home, Fabianova spiked his drink. He died from an overdose.

Police again charged Fabianova with murder but she serviced only five years of a 10-year prison sentence. She was also banned from Prague for five years.

A year later, she was arrested on burglary charges and spent just over two years in prison after she was found guilty of the crime.

Fabianova murdered a man named Augustine K on May 29, 2003. She struck Austin six times with a meat cleaver. She had visited the man in his home. After killing him with the meat cleaver, Fabianova dragged his body from the living room and sat him up in a chair, covering the corpse with a blanket. Fabiranova then stole numerous valuables from the home.

Her fourth and final victim was a man named Richard S. He was stabbed 38 times on August 8, 2003. Police recovered Fabianova’s DNA from underneath his fingernails. She was then taken into custody.

Life in Prison

Fabianova was arrested once again but would not receive such a lenient sentence. This time, she was sentenced to life in prison, being only the third woman in the Czech Republic to receive this lengthy sentence. In Czech, a life sentence is 20-years in duration. Since her conviction and sentencing, another Czech woman received a sentence of life in prison after she was found guilty of murdering her four children.

Women Behind Bars in the Czech Republic

More than 1,700 female inmates occupy the 35 prisons in the Czech Republic. Most women behind bars in the country are serving time on charges of some type of theft or fraud. In comparison, prisons in the Czech house more than 21,000 male inmates. While many of the male inmates are locked up over theft-related convictions, there are far more imprisoned on violent charges.

The average length of a sentence in a Czech Republic prison is 24.1 months. Capital punishment, or the death penalty, called trest smrti in Czech, is forbidden by the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of the Czech Republic, part of the constitutional law of the Czech Republic.
