Deep Pockets Hold Secrets
It was becoming a exceptionally harsh winter in Northern Wisconsin. I found myself a bit unprepared having recently downsized for my move to the Northland. My daughter and her fiancé had moved to his hometown after completing college. They have since married and blessed me with 2 amazing Grandchildren, drawing me into a winter wonderland. My winter coats were all waist length, allowing the cold, high winds to sneak under, thus my core was often exposed to it. (6.5)

The Siren's Call
The machines trill on and on with their beckons and blinking lights to a victimless room like a Christmas parade in a ghost town. Fuege State
A man in a suit. Or rather a man who appears to be stood at the edge of the ether, waiting. He is holding dice, he looks left, he looks right, then players appear on either side of him. The players mouths are moving fast and opening wide, but I cannot hear them. I go closer, and all surfaces surrounding them darken quickly, an iodine sky. Now I can see the table and the voices build from whispers to roars.

The Mantis
The sky cries, wet and humid. I’m making my way through the crime scene, wondering how the hell something like this happened and I never noticed. How was this right under my nose, this whole time and I never knew? I am the lead detective. I was the one who figured out the murderer’s motive, the twisted reasons why. I was the one who should’ve figured this out, too.
