It was a dark and stormy night. The rain was pouring down like bullets, and the thunder was deafening. A lone car drove along the winding road that led to the small town of Willow Creek. Inside the car, a young woman named Jessica was nervously checking her phone. She had just received a text message from her best friend, Sarah, who lived in Willow Creek.

"Hey Jess, are you almost here? I'm so glad you decided to come visit me. It's been too long since we last saw each other."

Jessica typed back a quick reply.

"Yeah, I'm almost there. Just a few more minutes. I can't wait to see you either. It's been a crazy year for both of us."

Jessica smiled as she thought of Sarah. They had been friends since kindergarten, and they had always stayed in touch, even when Jessica moved to the city for college and Sarah stayed in Willow Creek to work at her family's bakery. Jessica had graduated a few months ago, and she had landed a job as a journalist at a local newspaper. She was excited about her career, but she also felt lonely and stressed. She needed a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, and she hoped that spending a weekend with Sarah would help her relax and unwind.

She looked at the road ahead and saw a sign that read "Welcome to Willow Creek". She smiled and turned off her phone. She was almost there.

She didn't notice the shadowy figure that was watching her from behind a tree. The figure wore a black hooded cloak that covered his face. He held a large knife in his hand, stained with blood. He had been waiting for Jessica for hours, ever since he saw her picture on Sarah's social media account. He had been stalking Sarah for weeks, ever since he saw her at the bakery. He had been killing people for months, ever since he escaped from the mental asylum. He was the Silent Shadow, the serial killer who haunted Willow Creek.

Sarah was waiting for Jessica at the front porch of her cozy cottage. She had baked some cookies and made some tea for her friend. She checked her phone and saw that Jessica had texted her that she was almost there. She smiled and put her phone away. She couldn't wait to hug her friend and catch up on everything.

She heard a car pull up in front of her house. She looked up and saw Jessica's red sedan. She waved and ran down the steps to greet her.

"Jess! You're here!" she exclaimed as she hugged Jessica.

"Sarah! I missed you so much!" Jessica said as she hugged her back.

They let go of each other and looked at each other with affection.

"You look great, Jess. I love your hair," Sarah said, admiring Jessica's short bob.

"Thanks, you look great too. I love your dress," Jessica said, complimenting Sarah's floral sundress.

They laughed and grabbed their bags.

"Come on, let's go inside. I have some cookies and tea for you," Sarah said as she led Jessica to the door.

They didn't notice the shadowy figure that was following them from behind. The figure moved swiftly and silently, keeping a safe distance from them. He waited until they entered the house and closed the door behind them. Then he crept closer to the window and peered inside.

They sat on the couch in the living room, sipping their tea and munching on their cookies. They talked about everything: their jobs, their families, their love lives, their dreams. They laughed and cried and reminisced about their childhood memories. They felt like they were back in their old days when they were inseparable and carefree.

"So, how do you like being a journalist?" Sarah asked Jessica.

"It's amazing. I love writing stories and meeting new people. It's challenging but rewarding," Jessica said.

"What kind of stories do you write?" Sarah asked.

"Well, mostly human interest stories. You know, stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. this one time, I interviewed this old lady who knitted sweaters for homeless dogs. Or this other time, I interviewed this young boy who saved his sister from a fire. Stuff like that," Jessica said.

"That sounds awesome. You're so talented, Jess," Sarah said.

"Thanks, Sarah. You're so sweet," Jessica said.

They smiled at each other.

"What about you? How's the bakery business?" Jessica asked Sarah.

"It's good. We have a lot of loyal customers who love our cakes and pastries. My mom is still the boss, but she lets me handle some of the orders and deliveries. It's fun but tiring," Sarah said.

"Do you ever get bored of it?" Jessica asked.

"Sometimes. I mean, I love baking, but I also have other dreams. Like traveling the world or writing a book or something," Sarah said.

"Then why don't you do it?" Jessica asked.

"I don't know. I guess I'm afraid of leaving my comfort zone. And my mom needs me here," Sarah said.

"Sarah, you can't live your life for someone else. You have to follow your own heart," Jessica said.

"I know, Jess. But it's not that easy," Sarah said.

They sighed and looked at each other with understanding.

They didn't notice the shadowy figure that was peeking through the window. The figure watched them with hatred and envy in his eyes. He hated them for being happy and alive while he was miserable and dead inside. He envied them for having friends and dreams while he had none. He wanted to make them suffer as he did. He wanted to make them scream as his victims did. He wanted to make them die like he should have done long ago.

He raised his knife and smiled wickedly.
