How did an after-wedding party turn into a crime scene?
(Port Jervis, New York) Tina Entwistle-Deleg was a 30-year-old single mother who moved to Port Jervis with her three children to escape a violent past. She wanted a fresh new start and was determined to have one. She and her siblings were very close and eventually, they all followed her to Port Jervis. It was a happy family time. Surrounded by her family, she finds a job, falls in love a few times, and had three children. However, everything changed when she met her neighbor, who was the perfect gentleman, Luis Deleg. In the beginning, he offered to help out around the house and she always refused. She was not looking to rush anything. Tina was focused on building a better life with her children and was independent. Nonetheless, as time went on she started to notice how good Luis was with her children although he did not have any of his own. This impressed her very much and she started to fall for him.
They eventually started a relationship that was affectionate and appeared to everyone to be the ideal love. No one had any high suspicions about Luis at all. After dating for two years they were engaged and Tina was pregnant. Luis would finally be having his first child. Everyone was over the moon with happiness. Over time, her sister and friends began to feel like something was off with Luis and had their doubts. Something was off with him. He was never violent towards Tina in front of her family and friends but had shown a jealous streak. They tried to talk her out of the marriage, but she was determined to get married and be happy. She did not want to be a failure.
On March 28th, 1998, it was a happy day as everyone witnessed Tina and Luis exchange vows. Everything seemed perfect. It was a beautiful and happy wedding ceremony with no warning signs in sight. No one knew at the time this day would later become a nightmare. Fast forward, to 1:00 am-Ten Hours after the wedding, everyone went to Tina's house for an after-wedding party. Everyone was having a great time when yelling and screaming erupted. People were frantically running everywhere, 911 was called but no one was able to specifically tell the operator exactly what was going on. It was chaotic. Her brother was stunned when he heard that someone stabbed Tina. He found Luis's brother holding a knife, they fought and her brother was able to get the knife away from him.
Suddenly, a body falls from the second-floor window and it is the groom Luis. He is unconscious and covered in blood - wounded but alive. Police arrived and secured the crime scene and tried to calm everyone down. There was a trail of blood leading up to the bedroom and Tina was covered in blood in her wedding dress. She had a gash on her head, defensive cuts on her arms, and blood everywhere - on the walls, the stairwell, and the sidewalk. She was laying next to the crib where her three-month-old slept through it all.
According to guests at the party, Tina was playing matchmaker with her friend and Luis's cousin. As she played matchmaker, Luis became jealous. The newlyweds went upstairs and in a jealous rage, the groom retrieved a knife and stabbed Tina. She begged for her life and told him his baby girl was in the bed next to them. He continued to stab her to death in her wedding dress. He plead guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life.
