Are you a fan mystery and adventure? Does the progression of a case being solved entertain you from your TV screen often? Are you an admirer of, what some in his world have called the greatest private detective of all time, Mr. Sherlock Holmes?

If so, no doubt you have seen at least a few portrayals of this composed character in the many shows and movies he has appeared in. From the 1900 classics to the most recent unique perspective of Sherlock’s younger sister, Enola Holmes, the stories have entertained audiences everywhere.

The excitement of a new twist on the mystery solver’s story draws audiences in as another talented actor plays the beloved character. The 2010 TV show Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is an example of the modernization of this timeless personality. 2009 portrayal by Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes, entertained its viewers with dramatic plot-twists and captured their interest with action and suspense. These films, and many more, have added action and thrill to enhance the crime solving and engage the viewer as Sherlock triumphs in the face of the unknown.

Enjoyment is found in the observance of this pursuit of justice with good wining and the mystery solved. While watching any variation of Sherlock Holmes is likely to be satisfying, to mystery-loving audiences, it can be difficult to know what other movies and shows will be equally entertaining.

For audiences who enjoy the original classics of Sherlock’s crime solving episodes the late 1900s TV series Murder, She Wrote is a comparable show that is sure to thrill you. Angela Lansbury plays Jessica Fletcher, an amateur sleuth who assists law enforcement and desperate clients in unraveling mysteries and murders. She records her adventures compiling an impressive resume from her unorthodox excursions.

Those who enjoyed the adventure of a modern mystery can try 2009 Angels and Demons and the succeeding films. The following of clues and thrill of the chase are sure to gratify Sherlock fans. Leading actor Tom Hanks, playing Robert Langdon, uses his knowledge of symbols and history to catch the criminal in a unique fashion relatable to Sherlock’s individual style.

To find a good match of excitement and suspense one can watch The Maze Runner film trilogy. Thomas, played by Dylan O’Brien, leads his companions to face contestant challenges in a life-threatening fight to determine the truth of themselves and their world. Like Mr. Holmes, they struggle through with fear of betrayal and face moral dilemmas in their efforts to better the lives of themselves and those around them.

If one is looking for the humorous side that Sherlock shows in in his crime solving pursuits they can view 2019 Murder Mystery. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, playing Mr. and Ms. Spitz, find themselves in the middle of a dangerous game that requires teamwork and improvisation to survive. This film shows that laughs can be found in the tense moments between running for your life and catching clues that may save someone else’s.

Sherlock Holmes, in many portrayals, is a master of disguise and manipulation. Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson starring in 2019 The Hustle incorporate these talents into their battles against society and each other. Like Holmes they think themselves above the law and spend their time in a world that would distress the average citizen.

While these shows and movies can never replace the classic story of the London detective they are full of the type of anticipation and intrigue that mystery lovers seek. As you investigate these worthwhile amusing films some may even make it from your watch-list to your list of all-time favorites.
