The father of Nikki Yadav's partner has been charged with murder in connection with another murder case. According to the authorities, Sahil and Nikki married in a temple three years ago. (File) In New Delhi: According to police reports, the father of the person who killed Nikki Yadav's boyfriend and put her body in a refrigerator at a roadside eatery run by his family in Delhi had already been apprehended in connection with another crime. According to sources, the police brought Sahil Gehlot and his father, Virender, to the dhaba, where Nikki's body was discovered in a refrigerator, to recreate the crime scene. At the home of the Duty Magistrate on Friday, the police turned over Virender, Sahil's two cousins, Ashish and Naveen, and two companions, Amar and Lokesh. According to the authorities, Sahil and Nikki wed in a temple three years ago. Although Nikki had invited her family, they refused to attend the wedding because of the caste disparities.

Sahil's father, cousins, and two friends were suspected of being involved, so the police also questioned them and detained them after determining that their responses did not support Sahil's account, according to sources. The police escorted them to the dhaba where Sahil had placed Nikki's remains in a refrigerator a day after their detention; they continued. When they lived in Greater Noida in 2020, Nikki and Sahil allegedly got married, according to his pals, who told the police.

Sahil was taken to their residence in Noida by the police for this reason. The neighbors were also interrogated, according to sources. Despite their initial denials, Nikki's family members were aware of her marriage, according to the inquiry so far. According to sources, the police are currently investigating the accused's phone records and data to determine who participated in the conspiracy and how what organized the murder. This Monday, Sahil Gehlot was given a five-day police detention remand. Police claim that Nikki's partner strangled her to death after she learned of his upcoming marriage to another lady. Last Tuesday saw the arrest of Sahil. On February 9, the accused got engaged. He first went to meet Nikki at her apartment. A disagreement over his engagement with another woman arose while they traveled around Delhi in the early morning hours. He allegedly became enraged during this and strangled Nikki with a charging cable. After that, he continued to keep the victim's body in the restaurant's refrigerator before leaving to attend his friend's wedding.

Details of the Case

According to the Delhi police, Sahil Gehlot's father, Devendra Gehlot, was arrested on suspicion of murdering Nikki Yadav. The incident occurred when Nikki Yadav went missing from her Adarsh Nagar, Delhi residence. After her parents filed a complaint, the Delhi police initiated an investigation and eventually found her dead body near a railway track in Haryana.

The police found evidence that Devendra Gehlot had conspired with his accomplices to murder Nikki Yadav. The motive behind the murder was reportedly a financial dispute between Nikki Yadav's father and Devendra Gehlot.

Legal System in India

The case of Sahil Gehlot's father highlights the need for a robust and efficient legal system in India. The Indian judiciary is often criticized for its slow and cumbersome legal procedures, which can take years to resolve cases.

However, the recent increase in the use of technology and the implementation of online courts have helped to streamline the legal system to a great extent. The use of video conferencing, e-filing, and e-summoning has not only helped to reduce the backlog of cases but has also made the process more transparent and accessible.

Crime Statistics in India

The case of Nikki Yadav's murder is not an isolated incident in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there were 4,05,861 cases of crime against women in India in 2019. This number includes murder, rape, dowry deaths, and cruelty by husbands and relatives.

The NCRB report also states that the conviction rate for crimes against women in India is as low as 22.8%, a cause for concern. The government and law enforcement agencies must work together to ensure that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes are brought to justice.

Societal Perspectives

The case of Nikki Yadav's murder also highlights the need for a change in societal attitudes toward women. The patriarchal mindset prevalent in India often results in the subjugation and oppression of women, leading to incidents of violence against them.

It is essential to promote gender equality and empower women to reduce the incidence of such crimes. We can achieve this through education, awareness campaigns, and policy initiatives to create a safe and inclusive society for all.
