Luka Magnotta, a Canadian man, gained international notoriety in 2010 and 2011 for committing a series of heinous crimes, culminating in the killing and dismemberment of Chinese international student Jun Lin. The crime was particularly shocking due to the fact that Magnotta filmed the murder and posted it online, leading to his eventual capture.

The events leading up to the murder of Jun Lin began in 2010, when Magnotta began posting videos of himself committing acts of animal cruelty on the internet. In these videos, he is seen suffocating kittens with plastic bags and then disposing of their bodies in grotesque ways. These videos drew the attention of animal rights activists, who tried to have Magnotta arrested. However, due to a lack of evidence linking him to the crimes, he was not charged.

In the spring of 2012, Magnotta's online presence took a darker turn. He began posting personal ads seeking men for "casual encounters" and began dating Jun Lin, a Chinese international student studying in Montreal. It is believed that the two had met online, and that their relationship was short-lived.

On May 24, 2012, Magnotta killed Lin in his Montreal apartment and filmed the murder. He then dismembered the body, mailing Lin's hands and feet to different political parties and schools in Ottawa, and leaving the head in a Montreal park. After the crime, Magnotta fled to Paris, France using a fake passport under a different name.

Canadian police immediately launched a manhunt for Magnotta and issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant. They also alerted Interpol and other international law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for him. On June 4, 2012, Magnotta was arrested in an Internet café in Berlin, Germany while reading news articles about himself. He was extradited back to Canada to face trial.

Magnotta was charged with first-degree murder, among other crimes, and stood trial in December 2014. The trial was highly publicized and garnered international attention. After a two-week trial, the jury found Magnotta guilty of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

The case of Luka Magnotta is one of the most shocking and disturbing in recent memory. His actions, culminating in the brutal murder and dismemberment of Jun Lin, were made all the more heinous by the fact that he filmed the murder and posted it online. The case also drew attention to the issue of online animal cruelty and the dangers of meeting people over the internet. Magnotta's conviction and life sentence serve as a reminder of the gravity of such heinous crimes and the need for justice for the victims and their families.

On December 23, 2014, Magnotta pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Lin, but denied responsibility for his actions due to mental disorder. On December 23, 2014, Magnotta was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

On June 4, 2012, Magnotta was arrested in an internet café in Berlin, Germany, while reading news articles about himself. He was extradited to Canada on June 18, 2012. Magnotta was charged with first-degree murder, committing an indignity to a body, and publishing obscene materials.

The Luka Magnotta incident shocked and horrified the world, and highlighted the dangers of internet fame and infamy. It also led to discussions about mental health and the responsibility of social media platforms in curbing the spread of violent and disturbing content. The tragic death of Jun Lin serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of such actions and the importance of holding those who commit such heinous crimes accountable for their actions.
