There are several notable examples of how the United States perceives its military to be a force for good and justice throughout its history. And the employment of military force for a worthy cause was vividly exemplified in the Gulf War in 1991, when America came to the help of an ally. Operation Desert Storm and the Liberation of Kuwait are two names for this conflict. Whatever the label, it was a struggle that America had to fight because of an illegitimate invasion of an ally and an act of aggression that we could not just ignore.

Solar energy is another well-known alternative energy sources. This entails the creation of solar cells that collect and concentrate the energy emitted directly by the sun, converting it to electricity or, in certain situations, hot water. Solar energy produces no pollutants, much as wind energy.

For a long time, the United States and the world's civilised nations had to put up with Saddam Hussein, Iraq's ruler. He was growing increasingly aggressive in his efforts to put advanced nations' willingness and ability to stop him to the test. On August 2, 1990, however, he crossed the line when Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait on fabricated grounds.

It's vital to remember that the United States and its allies did not start a full-scale campaign on Iraq within days or weeks after the country's occupation. There were attempts to discuss and peacefully resolve the conflict. But Saddam Hussein defied the world and pressed on with his plan to absorb Kuwait and then expand the attack into Saudi Arabia.

The Gulf War also sent a strong message to the rest of the world that America values its allies and would defend them if necessary. That was demonstrated in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. When a country becomes a friend of the US, its adversaries become our adversaries. Not only did Iraq openly attack one of America's friends in an inconceivable invasion, but the hostility also put Saudi Arabia, another crucial partner, at jeopardy.

As the war preparations progressed, America took advantage of its capacity to rely on its foreign allies, mobilising a massive worldwide army. In total, 34 nations supplied troops, ships, guns, and other military aid to help the United States in repelling the invasion.

The adversaries of America also learned about the military's extraordinary effectiveness throughout this battle. The assault started on January 17, 1991, with a major air strike that astonished Iraqis and the rest of the world. The fury of the airstrikes and the firestorm unleashed on the Iraqi military as a result of defying the west almost condemned them to ever create an effective army to counter the overwhelming military reaction to their actions.

The ground campaign that followed the air onslaught was one of the most brilliant in modern warfare. America engaged Iraq's powerful army on their own soil with modern technology and soundly beat them. The Iraqi plan was to keep the vast desert behind them, believing that no adversary would be able to travel it and locate their back flank. The coalition forces, under by General Norman Schwarzkopf, used satellite technology and navigation systems to guide their army across the desert by night and conduct a spectacular surprise attack on the Iraqi Republican Guard, bringing them to a devastating defeat.

The capacity of the American-led coalition army to repel the invasion of Kuwait may best be described as "Lightning War." Major fighting had ended by early March 1991, and Kuwait had been freed. The world had never imagined that defeating an opponent in fewer than 90 days was feasible. But it showed the rest of the world that America could defend its allies and defeat a brutal tyrant.

Since then, there have been debates over whether President Bush should have used the advantage gained by defeating Saddam's armies to also capture Iraq. By adhering to his stated purpose and restoring Kuwait to Kuwaiti authority, President Bush showed remarkable foresight. President Bush demonstrated wisdom in his leadership in 1991, resulting in Operation Desert Storm becoming one of the most successful military campaigns in US history.
