JUNE 22,1984 (chapter -1)

A horrific and unexplainable case of Kerala, yet to be solved

By BUVANESH Published 23 days ago 4 min read

It all started on June 22, 1984, when a man named Radhakrishnan was walking to his fields in a village named Kollakadavu. It was dark there as the time was 4 AM. He noticed a bright light emitting from his fields. He moved slowly to check out the lights. He didn't know that the view was going to disturb the peace of the residents of the village.

He was dumbstruck to notice an Ambassador car was burning, mid in the fields. He didn't have a close look at the vehicle. Soon, his friend Suresh Kumar accompanied him and they decided to report to the police. Indians didn't own a telephone in everyone's house in 1984, and they decided to visit the police station.

The police of the district D.S.P Haridas, came to know about the car incident and reached the fields by 5 AM. He didn't know that this case had the potential to change the history of crime in India. It is yet to be solved, even after 38 years. The case was going to be an inspiration for many crime novels ....

Haridas took a keen view of the burnt-out car, which horrified him. He stumbled to see a corpse being burnt inside the car. The corpse was burnt in such a way that the corpse was not recognized. The police team decided to make use of the forensic department . The results the forensic department reported to the police was shocking and confusing .

They found the moist soil near the burnt car , which included some footprints ( maybe from the criminal ) . They also found a glove which had some hair inside it , A matchbox along with a water bottle , and finally a slippers .

The corpse inside the car was sent to autopsy . The police and the residents came to a conclusion that , it was just merely an accident , except Haridas . Something inside made him feel that , something was wrong with the case . He decided to find the true owner of the car . It came to know that , It is owned by a man named Sukumaran Kurup , who bought this car in a second hand .The number plate on the car read "KL Q 7831" .

Sukumaran Kurup came from Saudi Arabia to India . In the early stages of life , he lived a middle-class life . But , he and his wife started flourishing in Saudi Arabia as an executive in marine petroleum field and nurse , respectively . They thrived a lot and decided to build a house in Kollakadavu village in Kerala . He and his family , including his two children ,visited the village often to their upcoming house . He lived a prosperous , problem-free life , used to throw party to his friends , potraying his luxurious life to everyone in the village .

The police force decided to reach out to the Kurup Family , and they started suspecting the family members . They bought a new character from his family named 'Baskaran Pillai' who confirmed that the burnt corpse ( tears rolling down his eyes ) was Sukumaran's . Haridas recalled when the police reached out to the family members , they were care-free including sukumaran's wife . They were cooking a non veg- meal to their family . It seemed that , the death of Sukumaran didn't bother them at all .Baskaran pillai confirmed that Sukumaran died of an Accident .

Meanwhile , The autopsy results of the sukumaran's body were out . The autopsy were handled by Dr. B. Umadathan . His reports were shocking himself . These reports left him trembled and motivated him to publish a book named " DEAD MEN TELL TALES " .

The report said " Sukumaran's dress was burnt here and there ,stuck to his body . A small part of his underwear was not burnt . In addition , His neck was strangled " This left the police suspicious . " Dr. Umadathan , confessed that , the man was strangled for life . To be framed as an accident , the murderer decided to burn his body and his car " . Haridas confirmed his suspicion ,that it was not an simple accident , but more than what is predictable .

Haridas and his police force decided to reach out to his family , and reported them it was not an accident , it must be a murder . They asked Kurup's family to bury his burnt corpse back of the house , in their garden . Haridas was confused and went crazy about the case .

One of the police force noticed some burnt marks in the hands of Baskaran pillai . The family had shown no reaction on the death of Sukumaran , which made Haridas suspect the family . He sent some police to spy on the family . The village residents were spreading rumours among themselves , that the police is not too smart to handle the case . Meanwhile , Haridas received a phone call .

A suspicious man was on the phone call . His voice is cloudy , dense and had a low-pitched tone . He didnt talk so much . He said " The body buried back the garden in Sukumaran's house was not the body of sukumaran " .The phone call left the whole police force confused and crazy......
