Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán was one of the most notorious drug lords in the world, known for his brutal tactics and cunning maneuvers in the drug trade. He was the founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most powerful and expansive drug trafficking organizations in the world.

Born in La Tuna, a rural town in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, El Chapo began his career in the drug trade as a young man. He worked as a low-level operative for the Guadalajara Cartel, which at the time was one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in Mexico. As he rose through the ranks, he became a key player in the organization, eventually forming his own cartel after the capture of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, the leader of the Guadalajara Cartel.

The Sinaloa Cartel quickly established itself as one of the most powerful and ruthless drug trafficking organizations in the world. It was involved in the production, smuggling, and distribution of various drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. The cartel had an extensive network of operatives and informants, and was known for its use of violence and corruption to maintain its power.

One of the most notorious aspects of the Sinaloa Cartel was its use of elaborate tunnels to smuggle drugs across the US-Mexico border. These tunnels were often several feet underground, and were equipped with lighting, ventilation, and tracks for moving large quantities of drugs. The tunnels were also often rigged with sophisticated security systems, including motion detectors and alarms.

The location of these tunnels was a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few members of the cartel. However, over the years, law enforcement agencies in both the US and Mexico were able to gather intelligence on the tunnels, and began to conduct raids and seizures on them with increasing frequency.

Despite these efforts, the Sinaloa Cartel continued to use the tunnels to smuggle drugs into the United States. In fact, the cartel became so skilled at building and using the tunnels that they were able to outmaneuver law enforcement agencies for years.

El Chapo himself was a mastermind when it came to hiding the cartel's operations from law enforcement. He was known for his ability to evade capture and his willingness to use extreme violence to protect the cartel's interests. He was also known for his elaborate network of spies and informants, which allowed him to stay one step ahead of law enforcement agencies for years.

In 2014 following a massive manhunt with a reward of $8.8 million El Chapo was arrested and put in a high security prison. However El Chapo's escape from the Altiplano maximum security prison in 2015 was a remarkable feat of engineering and cunning. The tunnel that he used to escape was an engineering marvel, complete with lighting, ventilation, and a motorcycle on rails. The tunnel was nearly a mile long and was estimated to have taken at least a year to build. El Chapo was able to use the tunnel to escape directly from his cell, and was transported through the tunnel on the motorcycle before emerging on the other end and disappearing into the night.

The escape was a major embarrassment for the Mexican government, and caused a massive manhunt to be launched to find El Chapo. Despite offering a reward of $3.8 million for information leading to his capture, El Chapo remained on the run for several months before being recaptured in a joint operation between Mexican and US law enforcement agencies. The escape further cemented El Chapo's reputation as a criminal mastermind and demonstrated the extraordinary resources and ingenuity of the Sinaloa Cartel.

However, in 2016, El Chapo's luck finally ran out. He was arrested in Mexico following a massive manhunt, and was subsequently extradited to the United States to stand trial on drug trafficking charges. He was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to life in prison.

Despite his arrest, the Sinaloa Cartel continues to operate to this day, albeit in a more decentralized and diffuse manner. The cartel's power has been weakened by a number of factors, including the rise of rival criminal organizations and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to disrupt their operations.
