A twin explosion that rocked the All Progressives Congress gathering at the Rumuwoji Playground in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, injured three people.

According to Punch, the injured guy and two women have all been taken urgently to the hospital for treatment.

Darlington Nwauju, the APC's publicity secretary, acknowledged the occurrence and called it "unfortunate."

Reacting to the story, one @tn_hairs_ took to an Instagram comment section and wrote, "I saw an obituary picture of a young guy that sews in my street, never knew he die’d. Asked neighbors what happened, was told he got knocked down by brt around Ikorodu/Mile12 while coming back from APC rally. Of course news never carried it.. Everything about PDAPC never ends well…"

One nkiru59 wrote, "This is completely fake or perpetuated by insiders so they can use it as a reason to become violent towards other parties."

THE APC PARTY

Along with the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress is one of Nigeria's two main modern political parties.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), as well as a breakaway faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the new PDP, a faction of the then-ruling People's Democratic Party, came together to form the party in February 2013. Tom Ikimi, who spoke for the ACN, Senator Annie Okonkwo, who spoke for the APGA, Ibrahim Shekarau, the head of the ANPP merger committee, and Garba Shehu, the head of the CPC merger committee, all signed the resolution.

On July 31, 2013, the party got approval from the country's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to become a political party. Subsequently, the three parties that had merged revoked their functioning licenses (the ACN, CPC and ANPP). Two additional organizations, the African Peoples Congress and All Patriotic Citizens, applied to register with INEC in March 2013, using the acronym APC as well. This was reportedly "a development interpreted to be a move to thwart the successful coalition of the opposition parties, ahead of the 2015 general elections." A name change to the All Progressive Congress of Nigeria (APCN) was being considered by the party, according to a report from April 2013. The party name remained, though.

That's all for now....
