Early Crime

On the street away from the smell of the building crime officer Danin sat in his patrol car staring at the view of parking pavement directly in front of him. It was still dark out and shoppers had wandered into the store. He was tall and had the privilege of getting a bigger patrol car. The heater was on and the radio turned down low so he could still hear the populace. These days anybody would come by and fool with the cars or trash cans. The company never had him working with anyone and for all he knew he was the only one trying to prevent crime.

The view of the parking lot stared back at him as the hour went by. Last week there were three reports of cars that had been broken into their windows smashed. The general populace stayed away due to security but he could tell they were there off the property.

Generally it was small stuff that got stolen as it was a big grocery store. The other day a group of teenagers had come by and stolen a woven hand basket. The contents apparently were valuable and irreplaceable. An elderly lady had for some reason brought her basket to shop but, had left an expensive hardrive and diamonds in it from her house. Danin had been in the car and had chased the suspect but he got away after he got in the car. Walking back he saw the old lady holding her side and purse. He asked what was missing and she went on to explain that diamonds and a hardrive had gone missing.

Usually this early in the morning nothing happened, this was not particularly what he saw. Miffed by what had happened since, the criminal had gotten away. Usually, he ran fast enough to catch them all. The old lady, her name was Malfis, had parked in back away from the crowd. The weather was cold and dark, he had seen a young teenager and as she walked to her car he had seen her head towards the front door. He had been in the car on his patrol as the company recommended, when he heard his radio apparently nobody had anything to report. He had braked the car in middle of the lane. Rushing he’d left the car door open. The suspect ran for two blocks with him 20 paces behind, and then disappeared down an street that led to the crazy district. He had gotten a good description of the male down to his shoes.

Even though he was partially armed he couldn’t shoot as he wasn’t attacking. Walking back out of breath he started questioning Malfis. As he asked he noticed smoke coming out of her car, “What is that?” he asked. “Oh, that is the smoke from me Malkfoise dragon she said.

Weird what he had not ever mentioned that they lived. A dragon they were extinct and were from centuries ago. Yes, that is my minature dragon that got stolen. The one in the car is my Surnese dragon and eat and produces diamonds.

Thus the theft. The thief must have known the breed and taken them for the value. I should call the common wizard hotling she said. Then I can report this and get everything settled down. Ah and then Danin thought where do I participate. He still had his patrol car and the rest of the day. The smoke coming from her window drifted by. He could see a small tail on the back seat of the car.

Then out of nowhere, a wizard with a 911 hat appeared. Whoa he thought my head is gonna need straightening. “How may I be of service?” Dunkin asked.

After he got the whole plan of theft, he said I will look into my orb to locate him. Looking he quietly said maybe before tea. Then in a few minutes you could see an outling and then a dark figure in the same clothes as before carrying a woven basket. Ah, yes he heard him say he is in the tabby lands where the cats unite and make baubbles. I can take a car and get him in an hour.

The old lady of course refused to stay put and occupy herself while the wizard collected her belongings. Then she decided that her other dragon should be safe at home and said she would drive herself there to start a draft of tea.

I heard him say ta da and a small car pull up and him and the victim were gone. I strolled back to my car seeing I was off soon, all I had to do was finish my reports and secure the store commerce. Then I heard a noise behind me, someone saying you should come with.

I turned to find the wizard in hit pointy hat and odd attire waving at me to come along. Unable to resist I sat down in the car and went with him to magicked lands. We found the suspect in tabby lands and we tracked him from house to house until we saw him go into a dark purple three story one. After three hour of sitting in the car we decided to approach and enter. As we walked up the steps we could hear talking.

There was a plot to sell him, or kill him, or even dehydrate him. Then take the diamonds and sell those for potions to make magicked baubbles that were worth hundreds of pounds of the most expensive drought for health. The rest of the diamonds were to be sold to the humans and the cash kept. We could see proof fo the dragon from the hallway, as steam was rising from the corner. Creeping in while the cats and teenager argued, they tried to suspend the opponent.

There was a flash as the wizard let loose and the cats threw magic blue smoke bombs. The room filled with smoke as they went attacking from each side. The room had couches and two windows all a color of blue and yellow. The younger villian mobbed ice and balls at the 911 wizard.

Finally, they all fled and we were left with the dragon. The villian we had id’d a dangerous young crook who was known for theft of unusual animals. His name was Tatic the disastrous. Caught 4 times and an escapee he had scorched several properties. He was wanted and had a price for arrest, which, we collected. We had gotten him at the end the wizard tied him up with silver chains and laid him on the floor for inspection.

Upon return the old lady was happy to see her dragon and so grateful for the help. I had gotten a reward and learned about dragons. They were now safe with their treasure. It was producing diamonds and back in its basket. The reward for me was more than enough and the learning that dragons and magic were still around was worth it.
