Detective Frank Jenkins was a seasoned investigator, known for his brilliant deductions and quick thinking in solving even the most complex cases. But the latest case that had come across his desk had him stumped. The victim was a wealthy businessman, with no apparent enemies or rivals. The crime scene was devoid of any clues or evidence, except for a cryptic message scrawled in blood on the wall: "The end is near."

Jenkins had been working on the case for weeks, but had made little progress. He had questioned the victim's family, business associates, and anyone else who might have had a motive for the murder. But everyone seemed to have an alibi, and there was no clear suspect.

One evening, as Jenkins was going through the case files in his office, he heard a knock at the door. He looked up to see a young woman standing in the doorway. She was tall and slender, with long dark hair and piercing green eyes.

"Can I help you?" Jenkins asked, somewhat surprised by the unexpected visitor.

The woman stepped into the room and introduced herself as Olivia, the victim's personal assistant. She explained that she had some information that might be relevant to the case.

Jenkins was skeptical, but he listened as Olivia told him about a strange conversation she had overheard between the victim and an unknown caller a few days before his death. The caller had used the same phrase that was written on the wall at the crime scene: "The end is near."

Jenkins was intrigued. This was the first solid lead he had received in weeks. He asked Olivia to provide him with as much detail as possible about the conversation she had overheard.

As Olivia began to recount the details, Jenkins felt a chill run down his spine. The conversation seemed to suggest that the victim was involved in some sort of conspiracy, and that he had been targeted because he knew too much.

Jenkins decided to dig deeper into the victim's business dealings and personal life, looking for any clues that might confirm Olivia's suspicions. He spent long hours poring over financial records, phone logs, and email exchanges, trying to piece together the puzzle.

Finally, after weeks of exhaustive research, Jenkins felt he had enough evidence to make an arrest. He called a press conference, announcing that he had solved the case and that the killer was in custody.

As he stood at the podium, Jenkins felt a sense of satisfaction and relief. But just as he was about to name the suspect, he heard a loud explosion from outside. He rushed to the window and saw a car engulfed in flames in the parking lot below.

Jenkins realized that he had been set up. The killer had used the distraction of the press conference to carry out a deadly plan. He knew that he had to act quickly to catch the killer before he struck again.

Jenkins raced to the parking lot, calling for backup on his radio. He spotted a man fleeing the scene and gave chase, drawing his gun.

The man turned and fired, and Jenkins felt a sharp pain in his chest. He fell to the ground, struggling to keep consciousness as the killer approached him.

In his final moments, Jenkins thought about all the cases he had solved, all the lives he had saved. He knew that he had given his life in service to justice, and that his legacy would live on.

As the killer loomed over him, Jenkins whispered one last thing: "The end is near... for you."
