Crime Drama Favorites

All of the shows we love to binge have a little bit of everything. Drama, romance, mystery, and comedy. The shows that you don't realize you've watched too much of, until you realize you've told Netflix you're still here over and over again? I love those that we can't seem to turn away from.

The newest season of a fan favorite just came out on Netflix, and it's name is Good Girls. Beth and Rio?! What a power struggle (and power couple). It's intense, mysterious and you can't have Mae Whitman without some witty comedy. It just seems to pull people in, and you never know what's coming next. But I'm sure with it's raving reviews and people already asking about season 4, you've already finished the installment that just came out on February 16th. If you think your fun on Netflix is over, my friend you're in for some good news.

If you haven't yet seen In The Dark, you've got a whole new world to dive into. Another world of crime, perfect comedic timing, a cast with impeccable chemistry, and the twists and turns you love. I have to say, I'm pretty good at calling the end of movies (if I do say so myself) and even I couldn't predict nearly anything in this plot.

Imagine, a badass blind woman who finds a dead boy in an alley. Now take that, and multiply it by a hundred. If you thought Good Girls had twists, you won't stop watching Murphy and her friends until you find out what happened and why. Murphy is one of the best characters I've come to know and love. She so jaded and yet, so incredibly human and lovable at the same time. Not unlike Mae Whitman's character, Annie, Perry Mattfeld's Murphy performance has some of the most genuine comedic moments in a heartbreaking drama.

Murphy is definitely not alone in her journey. She brings Jess (Brooke Markham) and the extremely handsome Max (Casey Deidrick) on the voyage of not only uncovering what happened to her friend, but also discovering herself.

If you enjoy watching the back and forth between Rio and Beth, I have no doubt you can't look away from the mesmerizing relationship of Max and Murphy. The building of passion between two characters that are morally or personality-wise different, is so enticing to watch. It's a dynamic that we can't seem to look away from, and I'm not complaining!

Okay, enough about how excited I get when Casey Deidrick comes on screen.. The crime is really what pulls you in. One of the things that Good Girls does best, is allows you to see the other side. It's not wrong and right anymore, it's really about what you need to do, how you got here. It's crazy that these types of shows really make you push for the "criminals" to win. For them to get away with it. When I saw any kind of law enforcement come on screen with Beth, I tensed up. Because you know their story now, you're invested, you believe in them. And that's what Good Girls does, that In The Dark really twists.

In The Dark has the most gray area I've seen in a long time. It's really about the people, the relationships. Murphy goes between talking to drug dealers, to talking to the police and she doesn't change at all. Her character is immune to this idea that I either do this the right way or the wrong way, she's just doing it. She really is just trying to piece this mystery together and she doesn't care if she finds answers in the alley or on a police scanner. Her determination is met with Jess' moral compass. That's where we see our struggle with right and wrong, through Murphy's best friend. Even then, lines start to blur when you're around people you love. Almost every single character proves that.

I think I've proven to you that Good Girls is fantastic, and that In The Dark has the exact same lovable qualities. So go ahead and get your popcorn and get ready to binge because you won't want to stop. There are already 2 seasons of In The Dark from the CW out on Netflix now. So you better catch up!!
