Serial killer films are among the best movies in the horror genre, primarily because they're possible, unlike paranormal and super natural movies. In fact, a lot of serial killer films are based on true stories, intriguing, right? Serial killers are real and they are out there in the world to this day, believe it or not. Even walking down a busy street, it's possible to walk right by a mass murderer and you wouldn't even know it.

Anyways, enough of creeping you guys out. Serial killer movies can really get your heart racing and chills running straight down your spine, that's how intense they are. And when you're actually engaged in one, it feels like you're the victim being chased by the killer. You're feeling everything the victim in the film is feeling: fear, panic, quick breathing, etc. I sometimes can't even catch my breath in the midst of a frightful scene. So, if you really want to scare yourself in the middle of the night with all of the lights off, check out any of these terrifying serial killer movies to keep you up for days.

Us horror fans appreciate Scream so much that we constantly watch the film as though it's brand new. If you've never watched the movie, you must! In fact, I recommend watching this movie first before getting into other serial killer movies. Not only is this a scary film to watch, it's a great movie overall.

It’s about a killer who’s been inspired by too many scary films. And now, no one is safe in the town of Woodsboro. This psychopath stalks victims, teases them with trivia questions, and then rips them apart without mercy. But the most interesting part of it all, the killer could be any one.

Saw is one of the more gory serial killer movies. If you can handle tons of blood, guts ripping out, chopped off limbs, and everything else that's completely inhumane, then Saw is your best choice. Get started on the first film that began the entire series.

One serial killer is totally obsessed with teaching his victims how valuable life is through deranged, sadistic acts. And once the victim is captured by this insane killer, they must face a horrific game of survival that literally costs their lives.

No one can ignore American Psycho for it's an iconic film in scary movies. Also, you'll never look at Christian Bale the same after watching this. Even though it's a frightening film, it's chock-full of dark humor.

It revolves around a really handsome, intelligent, New York City professional who everyone’s obsessed with. He’s got charm, looks, and brains… and a passion for murder.

Ah, Hannibal, our favorite cannibal. Yes, cannibal, I wasn't going to leave out a human-eating serial killer from this list of serial killer movies. Hannibal is a follow up to the award-winning The Silence of the Lambs. And the second film really spooked viewers to the core.

Seven years after Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped from custody, he’s now one of the world’s most feared serial killers. However, Hannibal’s sixth victim, a wealthy man named Mason Verger, survived the torture, but is focused on getting revenge on Hannibal for what he’s done. But in order to get back at Hannibal, Verger uses FBI agent Clarice Starling as bait.

Yes, that's Johnny Depp on the front of the film's poster, which means this film is going to be a good one. But really if you haven't watched From Hell, yet, what are you waiting for? Not only is it an underrated horror movie, but it's an amazing story twist on the infamous Jack the Ripper.

In this film, Johnny Depp plays an excellent troubled clairvoyant police detective during the Victorian Era in London. His main focus throughout the entire film is to capture Jack the Ripper by investigating every single murder, getting closer as he does.

Here's another great gory film to add to the best serial killer movies, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is also a favorite for horror fans out there, and the perfect film if you want to be terrified with friends.

After hearing that Sally’s grandfather’s grave was destroyed, she and her paraplegic brother Franklin go out with their friends to track down who was behind it. After taking a shortcut around their family’s old farmhouse, they discover a group of insane, murderous outcasts living right next door. The group gets attacked one by one by the chainsaw murderer Leatherface, who wears a human-skin mask.

Based on the true story of famous American serial killer, The Iceman is a fantastic pick for those who love hitman stories. For starters, the main character was a regular, caring husband and father — but he held a dark secret for a very, very long time. And it involves him taking credit for nearly 100 deaths.

While a member of the American Mafia, Richard Leonard Kuklinski was a notorious hitman and a serial killer who loved his wife and children dearly. However, he was also capable of hiding his darkest secrets from his family and everyone else for nearly three decades. His signature murder move was freezing the bodies of his victims, giving him the name The Iceman. With this method, it made it nearly impossibly for investigators to track down the murderer.

Who's aware of the white-masked serial killer who manages to capture a victim even by walking at a very slow pace? One of the best horror films of all-time? Yup, the infamous Michael Myers and not Mike Myers from the film Austin Powers. I'm talking about the serial killer who's feared among many people even to this day, making Halloween one of the more classic serial killer movies.

When Michael Myers was young, he committed one of the most unimaginable crimes ever. After his crime, he was sent to an asylum and placed under the care of Dr. Loomis. The cold-blooded boy soon grew up to become an emotionless man determined to escape back to his hometown and complete his murderous mission he started years before.

I'm sure you're aware of the unforgettable serial killer Ted Bundy. Bundy is based on the real killer, of course, and it's definitely a great watch from the list of serial killer movies. To get to know more about Ted Bundy and what he's done in the past, I highly recommend getting into this movie.

Bundy is the story about the notorious, handsome serial killer who terrorized America during the 70s. His actions involved cruel, gruesome killing sprees that took place in nearly seven states — leaving 30 victims dead.

After watching this film, I guarantee that you'll probably never want to take the taxi in New York City ever again. Because Taxi Driver will certainly change the way you think about these everyday cabbies, making it one of the top serial killer movies to watch.

Travis Bickle suffers from insomnia and is also a disturbed loner who works as a New York City taxi driver. He haunts the streets nightly and slowly starts to detach himself from reality while he dreams about getting rid of the filth in the city. But when Travis meets Betsy, he becomes obsessed with the idea of saving the world, starting off with assassinating a presidential candidate. He then turns his focus to rescuing a 12-year-old prostitute named Iris.
