Bolanle Raheem's burial service was place today, January 17, at the Redeemed Christina Church of God, Olive Tree Parish, in Ikoyi, Lagos State. On Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, in the state's Ajah region, late Bolanle is said to have been fatally shot by a police officer.

When the late Raheem was reportedly murdered by the police officer, she was carrying twins.

Her immediate family, friends, and others are present at her funeral service.

How Bolanle Raheem died

Raheem was shot and killed on December 25, 2022, in a situation involving Drambi Vandi, an assistant superintendent of police who has since been suspended.

The lawyer was going home after a Christmas vacation with her family when the shooting event took place in Lagos's Ajah axis. The lawyer was also pregnant at the time of her murder.

The spokesman described the officer’s action as “unfortunate and avoidable”. “The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation”, he tweeted.

The NBA's president, Yakubu Maikyau, declared during the memorial service that the organization would take steps to prevent another Nigerian from experiencing what Bolanle did.

“Therefore, as we mourn today, I enjoin us to also reflect on our own lives; let us contemplate our mortality, our sincerity, and our eternity,”

the NBA president said.“Knowing that life on earth is transient and one day when our life is over, we would all stand to give account of our sojourn on this side of eternity."

“We miss you Bolanle. We are pained by your sudden demise. We miss the physical fellowship, but we take comfort in the words of the scripture which guarantees that when we exit our earthly house – our bodies, we only fall asleep and we shall continue to live in eternity with the Lord.”

“2022 was a sad year for us at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch in spite of our accomplishments. We lost a few of our members including a past Chairman. But the pain of the loss of Bolanle Raheem hits so differently,” Ikechukwu Uwanna, chairperson of the NBA Lagos branch, said.

“Mrs Raheem’s death is very painful because like some other unpublished cases, it was needless and avoidable.

“In this 21st century, we would have expected that our state actors and in this regard, the Nigerian Police will be better positioned to protect the lives and property of citizens and not take their life unjustifiably.”

Recall that Gafaru Buraimoh was slain by a police officer from the Ajah Division during a raid on black market fuel vendors in the early days of December.

Both assassin police officers are thought to be employees of Ajiwe Station, a police facility known for its rights violations and overly aggressive officers.
