Bianca Elaine Lebron was born on June 26, 1991. The 10-year-old fifth-grader lived with her parents and sister in Bridgeport, CT. She loved to sing and dance and had a pet hamster named Nina.

On November 7, 2001, Bianca and her sister arrived at Elias Howard School about 8:30 a.m. Bianca told her friends in front of the teacher that her uncle would be picking her up to take her on a shopping spree. She asked her friends if they wanted to join her, but they declined the offer.

A few minutes later, a two-toned brown-colored van with tinted windows pulled up in front of the school. The unidentified driver did not attempt to hide his face nor did he otherwise act strangely. Bianca said goodbye to her friends and hopped in the van. It was the last time anyone saw or heard from Bianca.

Bianca didn’t have an uncle nor did anyone in the family own a van matching the description of the one she climbed into that day. Panic and worry now ran higher than ever before.

Teachers marked Bianca absent from classes that day, unaware of the circumstances surrounding the absence.

Around 4:30 that afternoon, Bianca’s parents grew concerned when she had not returned home. They assumed she had visited a friend’s house after school, as she often did, so they did not call the police to report her missing until about 8:30 p.m.

The “uncle” driving the van was described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s or 30s with long sideburns, a beard, and dark curly hair.

“A Secret Boyfriend”

Six months after Bianca’s disappearance, police set their eyes on 20-year-old Jason Lara as a suspect. Bianca’s friends told police Jason was her “secret boyfriend.” They told police they’d seen the two kissing before. Jason’s friend owned a two-toned van similar to the van seen at the school and he fled Bridgeport the month after the disappearance.

Police tracked Jason down in Florida one-year later. They charged him with forgery in an unrelated case but used the opportunity to question him about Bianca’s disappearance. They determined Jason was not involved in the disappearance after a thorough investigation, which included corroborating his alibi.

Teacher Suspended; Changes at School

The teacher who allowed Bianca to leave the school was suspended from teaching. The school received criticism after the disappearance and implemented stronger security measures to keep students safe and hopefully prevent a similar future incident.

Although Bianca’s mother believes her daughter is still alive and out there somewhere, the little girl was declared legally dead so she could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the school. She was awarded a $750,000 settlement in the case.

No Other Suspects

No other suspects have been named in Bianca’s disappearance. Although her mother believes she is still alive, Bianca has been declared legally dead. If Bianca is still alive, she is 30-years old.
