5 Most Important Moments From Wentworth 8x03, 'Enemy Of The State'

After a shocking twist at the end of episode 2, episode 3 of Wentworth season 8 changed course, introducing an important new character that brings with her host of new storylines.

Here are the most important moments from Wentworth episode 8x03, 'Enemy Of The State'.

1. Judy Bryant arrives in Wentworth

The opening scenes of 'Enemy Of The State' introduces Judy Bryant, the third legacy character to be introduced in Wentworth this season, after Lou Kelly and Reb Keane. Judy has been re-imagined for the modern era as a 'hacktivist', imprisoned for a wiki-leaks style scandal. Unlike Lou, Judy becomes fast friends with Top Dog Allie, possibly as a nod to the original Prisoner, where Judy was close friends with Bea Smith.

Soon after her arrival, Judy helps Allie plan a hunger strike to protest Ann Reynolds' decision switch to a lower budget food supplier for the prison, further endearing herself to the Top Dog when the strike is successful. The new friendship is almost derailed when Judy is lead to believe that Allie has leaked secret information she entrusted her with to an agent from the National Security Office who has been pushing Judy to reveal her sources. However, she immediately apologises when it becomes clear somebody else is responsible.

2. Ann Reynolds may be working for the National Security Office

Judy realises Allie was not to blame when she hears a recording revealing that Allie's cell was bugged. While in the yard apologising to Allie, Judy sees Ann Reynolds in the company of the NSO agent, and it clicks that Ann must be involved, as she is the person most likely to have suggested the NSO bug Allie's cell rather than Judy's.

There may be much more to Ann and her new job at the prison than we've seen so far. And, the new plot line of Judy vs the NSO looks to be a major part of the season going forward.

3. Ruby tells her Father that Rita is in protective custody

While most of 'Enemy Of The State' is devoted to Judy's introductory storyline, elsewhere in Wentworth, Ruby is in emotional turmoil. Her Father, arriving from interstate for a visit, reveals that he is suffering from cancer. Although Ruby will be up for parole soon, she can't help but fear she won't see him alive again. So, she reveals that Rita, whom their Father believes to be the black sheep of the family, was not a bikie, but an undercover cop, and is currently in protective custody.

While Ruby's heart was in the right place, her father's new desire to seek his elder daughter out and make amends could inadvertently put Rita in danger

4. Reb collapses

Meanwhile, Lou and Reb are becoming increasingly desperate to get their hands on hormone replacement drugs for Reb. After appealing to Governor Jackson fails, they attempt to get the HRT in other, less legal ways, but none quite work out.

The situation ends in near tragedy when Reb collapses, suffering an allergic reaction from black market HRT. Lou, who obtained the vial as a last resort, is left blaming herself for the incident.

5. Marie.. lets go?

Following her failed suicide attempt at the end of the previous episode, Marie spends the majority of 'Enemy Of The State' in therapy with Doctor Miller. Taking a pill each night to help her sleep, Marie dreams of a shadowy figure. The figure is eventually revealed as Marie's dead son, Danny.

In her next session with Doctor Miller, Marie says she knows what her next move is:

"I have to let go."

She is next seen withdrawing the accusations she made against Ruby back in episode 2, 'Ends And Means'.

Whether this means she has actually let go of the past is unclear. This may be the beginning of a new Marie Winter mind-game. On the other hand, this could be the beginning of a redemption arc for Marie. It would definitely help to have all the prisoners on the same side when Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson makes her return.

Despite the shocking ending of last week's episode, there was no mention of The Freak at all in episode three. We'll have to wait until next week to see the next chapter of her story unfold.
