Middle School daze

The Bullies and the awesome best friends that got you through

Middle school holds the record for some of my most stressful and emotionally draining memories; on the other side of the coin, that point of time also represented a vibrant, wonderful and exciting batch of memories as well.

The entire experience encompasses two very contrasting relationships: best friends you stay friends with forever even until adulthood—-and the bullies that tried their very best to put you down.

One of my best memories is sitting everyday with my best friends for lunch—-and like clockwork I’d get my soda from the vending machine. One of my good friends (a tall brunette who loved to joke about everything) had mentioned a very funny observation one day, with very messy results. It made up a inside joke that lasted for years after—and something we still talk about to this day!

“So... how do you guys think caterpillars do it?” She said very casually, yet unfortunately for them(as I was unusually prone to laugh uncontrollably), I had just taken a swig of my very fizzy and cold drink and like a corny and silly sitcom, the most predictable thing that you’d roll your eyes about happened.

I had sprayed .... and I mean that in every sense of the word, my soda all over their books and on them!

It got to be a running joke, too.

Every time I’d come to the table with my new soda, their defenses would be ready.

Binders and books, up on the table. Like a mini military fortress, it was almost impenetrable.

I couldn’t see their faces, and it made me laugh more to see they felt the need to do preventative measures to keep them dry from my wrath.

Still, at some moments, it still occurred, and they got attacked by my soda spraying, snorting laugh—-an entertaining and hilarious memory we still talk about to this day!

But, these classic Middle school foibles had their downside.

Bullies!

We all have that time in our life where someone(or a group of people) seem to be laser focused on targeting us. For our looks, our beliefs, our style—-whatever the case, be it logical or illogical, bullies exist.

Middle school was ripe for the picking when it came to bullies and their decision to bully me.

But, let’s get to the embarrassment, people!

English class.

Classic situation gone awry: teacher assigns a paper, requires you to have an assigned partner. Already sounds like an episode of Boy Meets World, huh?

Well, there was this girl in my class that hated me. And I mean... she really did. Nasty looks, rude comments as I walked by, everything. I was praying, and I mean really praying she wouldn’t be my assigned partner. I had other really cool friends in that same class whom I would’ve loved to have instead. Even a random guy who was a little weird, I wanted him over her. I was hopeful that I’d get someone else.

But, as my name was called—-so was hers.

I was horrified, but I said nothing.

I was going to try to make the best of it!

Well, the assignment is simple: write a paper on each other and then read it aloud to the class.

I ask her all the required questions and so does she. We write the paper. Nothing too bad so far.

Then, we present it. I go first—-speaking loudly and clearly with respect, I read her list of favorite songs and places——short and simple and to the point. My face is red, because I know she’s staring at me with a scornful look, and I’ve always been a bit shy to speak in front of a group—-but I completed the task.

You might’ve predicted this: she does just the opposite.

She barely speaks above a whisper, reads through it way too fast, doesn’t really say everything—-and of course—-everyone is laughing.

I feel torn apart. I feel like I’m not being taken seriously, and the worst part I don’t think the teacher even said anything.

It was just the crappiest time ever.

Now, as I look on her Facebook profile(we have similar friends), she totes the narrative of being sisters to all women and being supportive and kind.

Well. People do change!!

In any case, these are my two most influential cringeworthy and embarrassing moments for school.

Hope you enjoyed! Have a wonderful day—and happy reading and happy writing!
