Act Your Age.

Don't Be Boring!

In life we all age.

That does not mean that we have to let our brains take us where biology say's we should go.

Age is but a number!

I agree some people may find that they may have other health concerns as they age, and others may not.

However, I don't think that should stop us from having fun.

I turned 50 years old in July, and I do get statements like this one.

"You don't look your age."

Some of my friends get told they do look their age,but does it really matter?

We all grow at different rates, and we do develop at different rates, but why should we act older just because we look or are getting older?

The truth is, these statements I get mostly come from young people, who seem to not understand that they too, will hit the numbers one day, and their bodies will change.

We all have responsibilities, and times when we have to be sensible.

Even young people do.

My Gran always told me,

"Life is for living. Even older adults can be kids sometimes."

She was right.

I believe that if we act our age all of the time, we will age faster.

Life can make you age faster, even if you are young, if you let it.

I understand that aging is a natural process, but we should not get too focused on how old or how young we look.

The thing we should be concerning ourselves with is, actually living life.

If you love dancing, then dance!

If you love playing silly games, then do it!

If you still like to wear that trendy style, don't let age stop you!

If you still enjoy laughing, then laugh!

If being messy is your thing, then engage in messy play!

Aging is a process, but don't let it be a life sentence.

You're not going to jail just for getting older, and life is still for living.

My grandkids and my children still love me because I can have a joke, chase them, and do the things I have always done.

My husband is older than me, and he uses a wheelchair, but that doesn't stop him from chasing us all around, or having fun.

I still love building sandcastles on the beach, blowing bubbles, playing dress up with my grandkids, and even my bedroom is still a 'teenage haven!'

I still collect teddy bears, and I still wear clothes similar to those in my teens. I know many will say,

"I don't fit in those clothes anymore."

But;

I do.

I usually buy my Jeans from the teen store because adult Jeans don't fit, and I find that even tshirts for sixteen year olds, still fit. So, I am taking advantage of that while I still can.

Also, there are some fun adult tshirts and Jumpers with cartoon logos, and fun slogans on that you can buy if you've grown out of teenage clothes.

Look, this might seem silly to the serious troopers, but I was always taught to be myself, and,

'Being me is half adult/half child.

Therefore;

Next time someone uses those words

"Act your age."

I will simply reply with

"Don't be boring!"

Aging does not mean we have to lose our appetite for life, and it does not mean that we have to age ourselves faster by acting more grown up than we feel all of the time.

Of course we have to be responsible sometimes, but children and teens have responsibilities too.

Responsibilities are a part of life, where as a number is just that, a number.
