You're only stuck in neutral if you choose to be

If you're anything like me, you're your own worst critic.

You beat yourself up for every little mistake and feel like you're never good enough. But the truth is, we are often our own harshest critics, and we're not always seeing the whole picture.

No matter what you think, you're probably doing better than you realize. Here are 6 signs indicating things are going well in your life.

You don't compare yourself to others

We all want to do our best, and being successful in life is important, but it's easy to forget that comparing ourselves to others does not contribute anything meaningful.

Everyone has their own path, and even though you may feel like you're behind others, remember that you have your own timing and pace, so measure yourself based on the goals you set for yourself rather than how quickly those around you are achieving theirs. Success comes from self-belief, hard work, and determination, so focus on what you need to do rather than fixating on everyone else's progress, as this won't do anything but have negative feelings of guilt or frustration.

What matters most is that you don't give up on yourself because, at the end of the day, your accomplishment will be rooted in effort, not comparison.

You're not afraid of change

Change can be scary, but if you're not afraid to embrace it, the world suddenly becomes an exciting place full of possibilities.

The potential to learn and take risks is exhilarating when you don't let fear stand in your way. Learning to accept change and grow with it is an invaluable skill that can affect all aspects of life. It helps build resilience, encourages creative thinking, and strengthens problem-solving abilities.

Knowing that you're brave enough to face change will give you confidence and a sense of accomplishment, as well as open new paths to success.

You never know what amazing opportunities may be waiting for you just around the corner if you just take the leap and step out of your comfort zone.

You know your worth

Knowing your worth means understanding the contribution you make to the world and acknowledging all that you have endured getting where you are today.

It's more than simply a dollar amount that applies to your hours. It's about respecting yourself, seeing your own goodness and value, and allowing yourself to be happy and successful with what you already have because of how hard you worked for it. Knowing your worth can include recognizing your flaws, accepting yourself for who you are, and realizing that life is too short not to love who you are. When we appreciate ourselves fully — strengths, weaknesses, goals, dreams — we can experience both success and failure with grace.

Being in tune with our self-worth helps propel us from one milestone in life to another with a renewed sense of confidence.

You take care of your mental and physical health

Taking care of your mental and physical health should never be taken lightly.

It's essential to practice healthy habits that nourish your body and mind in order to maintain overall well-being. Eating a nutritious, balanced diet; engaging in regular exercise; drinking plenty of water; getting enough sleep; reducing stress through activities such as yoga or meditation; and seeking professional help when needed; are all beneficial for both your physical and mental health.

Sure, you've heard these all before, but are you f'n doing them?

Taking the time out for self-care can be life-changing, so prioritize it accordingly and never forget the power that comes with being healthy inside and out.

You have a positive outlook on life

Living life with a positive outlook can be an incredible source of strength and resilience no matter what struggles come our way.

It is important to keep an open and curious mindset, always expecting the best out of each situation. Focusing on the good in life encourages us to find solutions instead of dwelling on the problem while understanding that some issues require more effort than just being positive. Accepting that not everything will necessarily turn out how we planned can also help to create meaningful results rather than simply wishing away our troubles.

Ultimately, every event in life has something to teach us, so having a positive outlook can bring us closer to understanding our own potential and building our own fortitude.

You surround yourself with good people

Surrounding yourself with good people is one of the most important and rewarding choices you can make in life.

Negativity has a tendency to drag you down, so fill your world with people who see the potential, who help you stay focused on achieving your goals, and who genuinely care about seeing you reach success. When you surround yourself with these kinds of individuals, their helpfulness will motivate and inspire you to keep striving for what matters most to you. Having this type of strong support system around you is essential for personal growth.

Inviting positive energy into your life can have a tremendous impact on where it takes you.

The final word

If you have these six traits, then congratulations—you're already ahead of the game.

You might not be where you want to be in life or your career just yet, but with a positive attitude and good people by your side, anything is possible. Keep pushing forward, and never forget how special and wonderful you are.

And always continue learning and growing so that you can be proud of the person you become tomorrow.
