Can HBCU Football Create its own Postseason Bowl Structure?
In a year where there's been a renewed interest in all things HBCU-related, Deion Sanders' hiring as the new football coach at Jackson State University was one of the biggest stories out there. The move literally changed the trajectory of SWAC media visibility and it's set the table for some pretty interesting times for HBCU football fans at the FCS level. Coach Sanders hitting the ground running wasn't just limited to the Jackson State program. In a recent tweet to the FCS Bowl universe, the new J-State head coach wondered aloud about HBCUs getting a piece of the post-season bowl pie that football programs at the FBS level have access to:

The coach underlines the importance of the Belgian player, but will not rush his return: "Peace of mind and patience, we will not do anything silly, he still has a little bit to do." He wants the renewal of Ramos: «He takes care of himself and he will play for many years»

Now we come to a team which you may be surprised to see. If you’re a newcomer to football, finding a club currently in League Two (the Fourth Division in old money) qualifying for this league of the all-time best may have you scratching your head; but with four FA Cups and a Charity Shield, the “Trotters” just about make the cut. Having spent more time in the top division without winning it than anybody else, they’d find life tough in the all-time league; but the players who won them those five first-class honours, together with a few from the club’s more recent spell of small-scale success in the twenty-first century, would make it tougher for their opponents than the history-unaware fan might think.
Robert GregoryPublished 3 months ago in CleatsWhy Atletico Madrid?
When I tell someone that I am an Atletico Madrid fan, I get the typical "Why when Real Madrid is so much better?" with a laugh. It's not easy being an Atleti fan. There is a lot of suffering involved and lately, it has gotten a little easier. A lot has changed in these last 10 years. I think if being an Atletico fan shows you anything, it is how much love you have for them and for the game. Lets be honest-no one likes to be a fan of a team who doesn't win a trophy every year like those other two big teams in La Liga. But that to me makes it even more satisfying when they do win! So I would like to share 4 reasons with you on why you should be an Atletico Madrid fan too.

After Arsenal and Aston Villa had taken approximately eight thousand words out of me, I hope it’s not an insult to the club if I say that the next team on my list was a welcome relief. After sorting, selecting and strategically synthesizing the stars and heroes of those heavy histories, something a little lighter was what I looked forward to.

Argentinean soccer midfielder and striker Diego Maradona sadly died of a heart attack on Wednesday 25th of November 2020. He underwent a successful operation for a blood clot at the beginning of the month, but the reported nine ambulances sent to his Buenos Aires residence didn't arrive in time to save him from the attack.
All-Time Premier League: Aston Villa
My last post was much longer than I expected, and if that’s any guide then this one won’t be much shorter. Aston Villa’s recent history is not as successful as Arsenal’s, but there was a time when they stood at the top of the honours list, and as recently as the early nineties the two would have had almost identical tallies. They don’t boast as long a run of First Division seasons, but they are now in their 107th. Only Everton, fellow founder members of the Football League, have had more. The players who have won them their twenty-five major honours have been not only some of the greatest footballers, but some of the most colourful characters in the game’s history, and doing them justice will take some time.
Robert GregoryPublished 3 months ago in CleatsAll-Time Premier League: Arsenal
Ordering the teams alphabetically, I begin with a club whose inclusion in this league should surprise nobody. In the hundred and one years since Henry Norris talked his team into the top flight, the Arsenal have never been relegated. With a history encompassing thirteen League Championships and a record fourteen FA Cups, they provide us with as rich a selection of players as any team in the league. “Arsenal,” wrote Percy Young (1960), “is the footballer’s pantheon: having achieved distinction in some other place he is transferred there, and to list the great men is but to inscribe the names of practically all footballers of the greatest reputation within the last thirty years.” In the subsequent six decades, although they have not recaptured the undisputed dominance they enjoyed in the thirties, their status among the aristocracy of English soccer has never been in doubt, and that list has only grown longer and longer.
Robert GregoryPublished 3 months ago in CleatsFalling from the heights
It used to be the highest football field in England. That’s the claim. The remote County Durham village of Wearhead, up in the North Pennines, was home to Wearhead United. For more than a century the team, resplendent in Red-and-White, competed on its memorably uneven pitch. The players rarely hit any great heights; this isn’t a tale of stirring cup runs and improbable title triumphs. But, at 1,017 feet above sea level, the team was proud of its geographical claim to fame.
