Chapter 3 Mirror “We will be together forever”. With this phrase in my mind, I woke up on the floor of my room, surrounded by a strange twilight. It was neither night nor day and the air was almost cold. The colors had lost their intensity and now showed different shades of pale gray.

Precipice Chapter III: RE: INTEGRATION
CHAPTER I CHAPTER II _____________________ A few days later, Avery was finally cleared to leave the city hospital. The call from the nurse was brief, simply describing Avery’s condition as “stable enough.” Normally Nikolai would question the nurse on the fidelity of her lack-luster conclusion, but the memory of Avery’s tears silenced any medical concerns he had. At this point, getting her out of that environment of stress and loneliness would do far more for her than leaving her strapped to a hospital bed.

The manor stood imposingly against the backdrop of the stormy night, its ivy-clad walls whispering tales of mystery and intrigue. The Whole
This was originally published in the Fiction community for Mackenzie Davis' Ekphrastic Challenge using the above photo by Oneg in the Arctic. But then I decided there was more of the story to tell, so I'm moving it to chapters, soon to be followed by chapter 2. If you've already read this, feel free to skip right over to the next chapter "Aegenwulf" (which means "wolf of the chief sea").

This ragged bunch of misfits in rumpled dress blues is my so-called task force - assembled to share intel and finally solve the Nyx Vesperra case that has cast its dark shadow over my career for almost two decades.

The Marshes II
I plant my ankles firmly in the ground, close my eyes and with one slash of my sword in the empty air before me, the invisible wall disappears. I fall to the ground, but quickly rise again. I start running towards the poor woman again, hoping that I won't be intercepted by the Suru magic again. My heart is working heavy overtime, beating rapidly in my chest. My nose fills itself with the disgusting air around me. While breathable, my lungs will have a hard time getting enough oxygen.

The Silver Serpent Society. Chapter Two.
The overpowering stench hits as I slip under the police tape and step into the squalid flat.Blood and gore splattered on peeling floral wallpaper like a Pollack painting. In the narrow kitchen the victim lays splayed unnaturally across cheap linoleum, arms and legs twisted in ways that turn my stomach. Sergeant Callahan stands grim-faced, filling me in on details while uniforms mill about uselessly.
