Who Will Find Them
Jake awoke from a restless night’s sleep. With all the activity over the last two days, getting any sleep at all was a surprise. He had gone from an ordinary bus driver to making the national news, and now he was contemplating working undercover for a private investigation firm. It was a lot to consider. Would this investigator job be a permanent position, or a one and done? If that were the case, would his driving job still be waiting for him? So many questions, so few answers. Then there was the questions Bill asked him toward the end of their meeting, “Do you own a gun, and do you have a conceal carry permit?” Jake carried a gun in the Air Force but never felt the need to carry one as a civilian. Stitch: The lore of Sara Foxgrave
The morning sun fought its way through the grime-streaked window, but it offered no warmth to the small bedroom. For Sara, mornings were never a gentle transition from sleep to wakefulness; they were a battleground of orientation. She blinked heavily, her eyelids feeling like sandpaper against her eyes. Every single day began with the same disorienting fog , a heavy shroud of uncertainty that made her question the very reality of her surroundings. She rubbed her eyes aggressively, trying to clear the static from her vision, and forced herself to look around the room. She looked once, then blinked, and looked a second time. It was a mandatory ritual. She had to verify the geometry of the walls, the placement of the door, and the specific tilt of the ceiling before she could trust that she was exactly where she thought she was.
