My Phone Started Receiving Messages From the Dead
What would you do if your phone started receiving messages from someone who had already passed away? The first message arrived on a Tuesday night at exactly 2:13 a.m. I was half asleep when my phone vibrated on the nightstand beside my bed. Normally, I would have ignored it until morning, but something about the notification made me reach for the device. As I squinted at the screen, my heart nearly stopped. The sender's name was Mom.

Who's the real Monster?
~ Alexia's POV The second my body stopped producing adrenaline I fell to the ground hard. "Ugh" I grunted angerly. Slowly lifting myself up I felt the dirt for the first time in who knows how many years. I had always hated the dirt, growing up bullies would push to have a laugh at the clumsy orphan. It didn't help that my ankles have always been weak.

The Midnight Oil
The flames were closing in; she couldn't see her way around for all the smoke. Couldn't breathe. Why had she done this alone? Why did she always insist on doing these things alone? She tried to hold her shirt over her mouth to filter the air, but it didn’t help. She started coughing; her throat burned all the way to her lungs. Coughing didn’t help clear them; she just inhaled more as she breathed in. Her chest ached and shuddered with each ragged gasp. She crashed into a tree and held onto it as she began to fade out, and it was warm, too warm. She felt blisters forming on her hands already. She looked back at the direction she’d come from. There, in the distance, a dark shape emerged from the billowing smoke, moving quickly, running. She needed to keep going. To get away, but she couldn’t, it was too late.

He dreamed of her. For the first time since he was little, Theo saw her in his mind's eye. Her soft, blue-green eyes were more beautiful than he remembered; her pale, freckled face remarkably similar to his... only sadder. He could feel her arms around him - her long, auburn plait tickling his shoulder - as she helped him on with his coat and wellies. Two suitcases sat by the door; one large and brown, the other small, red, and covered with Postman Pat stickers.

The Wrong Flame
The red lantern didn’t flicker like a flame. It pulsed — slow, steady, like a heartbeat. Mara stepped closer, each footfall sinking deeper than it should, as if the soil wanted to swallow her ankles. The air thickened again, syrupy and metallic, coating her tongue with the taste of rust.

The Binding
The child-shaped figure’s hand hovered in the air, waiting. Mara didn’t take it. She stepped forward on her own. The forest approved — branches creaked, roots shifted, the soil rippled like something beneath it was waking. The blue lantern in her hand pulsed harder, the cold light crawling up her neck now, threading itself beneath her skin like veins of frost.

The Forest Waits
The clearing held its breath. Mara felt the weight of the forest pressing in, branches bending low as if eager to hear her answer. The blue lantern in her hand pulsed against her palm — not warm, not cold, but alive, like something inside it was shifting.
