The Cave Part 23
"I will do my best," is all I could stammer out in the long silent pause that followed the elder's words. All eyes were turned in my direction, and whether I really felt confident or not, I had to give a positive answer. They held such unabashed faith in me. It was hard to imagine I had gone from living with a hermit in the mountains, to suddenly being the subject of so much attention.

Chapter One
The Red Tide The earthquake lasted seven heartbeats. That was all. Seven slow pulses beneath the bones of the world, each one a shudder of something ancient stirring in its sleep. In the fishing village of Dread's Hollow, cups rattled from shelves and crashed to splinter on stone floors. Church bells swayed without wind, their clappers striking out a frantic rhythm that spoke of things unseen. Dogs began baying all at once and would not stop, their voices weaving together into a chorus of dread that rose above the rooftops like smoke.

The Cave Part 22
The cavern had gone quite still with seriousness. All eyes were on me, and the obvious thing to do was step forward, but to what purpose I was not sure. I walked around the fire in the center of the floor, and faced the elders with the leader looking down at me from her seat on the dais. Only then did the goblins proceed with their ceremony. The goblin sitting at Mona's right hand rose, and proceeded to welcome me in the name of the tribe. It was pleasant enough, but my thoughts were still half distracted by the business side of all of this.

The Cave Part 21
My entry and reception to Dropdrip was not what I had expected. Several goblins had gathered around us by this point, but all were silent while the elder of their tribe spoke. Truth be told I had never seen such reverent respect for the elderly even among the human kind. When she opened her mouth they listened, and when she walked on they followed. It was hard not to mimic their behavior, and I found myself stooping myself a little to try to disguise my height in comparison to her.
