### Chapter 19: Reconstruction Era
The Reconstruction era (1865-1877) aimed to rebuild the South and integrate freed slaves into society. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments abolished slavery, granted citizenship, and secured voting rights for African Americans. Despite significant progress, the era faced resistance and violence from groups like the Ku Klux Klan. Reconstruction's end saw the rise of Jim Crow laws, enforcing racial segregation and disenfranchisement, but it laid the groundwork for future civil rights movements.
