We have all heard the saying that there is more to people than their appearance. We know that a person's personality and actions are more important than their looks. However, in reality, it is difficult to look past someone's appearance. We tend to judge people based on their looks, even if we don't want to. We quickly assess people's physical attractiveness, and this can influence how we treat them. Unfortunately, in our society, appearance is a significant factor, even though it should not dictate how we treat others. This often leads us to find fault and criticize other people's looks, including our own.

This article aims to answer the question of what makes a person scientifically beautiful. As humans and as a society, we are fascinated with beauty, and it is essential to understand the science behind it. We will explore the topic, and by the end of this article, you will learn if you are scientifically good-looking.

So, what are some key factors in determining attractiveness? Scientific research has suggested a pragmatic and yet disappointing conclusion when it comes to beauty: being attractive is a biological advantage. Moreover, scientific studies have also raised and explored several key factors that determine a man and woman's level of attractiveness. For now, we will be briefly discussing two of these key factors: facial symmetry and averageness.

Humans have always found beauty in symmetry since ancient times. The ancient Greeks believed in a concept called the golden ratio, which they believed to be the key to achieving perfection in nature. This golden ratio is an irrational number in mathematics, represented by the twenty-first Greek letter Phi. It is equal to the rounded-off value of 1.618, and it means that the ratio of two quantities is equivalent to the ratio of their sum to the larger number of the same two quantities. The golden ratio, also known as the golden mean or the divine section, has been used in creating various ancient works such as sculptures, paintings, and architectural structures.

The golden ratio has a significant impact on our perception of beauty, particularly when it comes to a person's face. Studies have found that attractive faces tend to have features with golden ratio proportions. This means that the width of a person's face in relation to the width of their eyes, eyebrows, and nose determines whether they are considered beautiful. For instance, researchers from the University of California, San Diego, and Canada's University of Toronto discovered that a woman's eyes should be less than half the width of her face to be considered attractive. Moreover, the distance between a woman's eyes and mouth should be more than one-third the height of her face. Many experts believe that the Greek golden ratio is the best way to measure beauty.

The faces of many celebrities who have gained widespread popularity for their appearance have also been evaluated for their level of attractiveness using the golden ratio. In fact, in 2016, a British plastic surgeon named Dr. Julian de Silva evaluated the appearance of some well-known female celebrities using the Greek golden ratio of beauty. At the time, Dr. de Silva concluded that the American actress Amber Heard and her facial features were the closest one to the Phi ratio of 91.85%. Other high-scoring celebrities include the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kate Moss.

Studies show that people with symmetrical faces tend to be healthier than those without. This suggests that attractive people are likely to have a better constitution and immune system due to the diversity of their genes. This connection between beauty and health is also seen in animals. Female birds, for example, assess potential mates based on their appearance and behavior to find a healthy and strong mate who can father young.

In addition to symmetry, research suggests that there is beauty in being average. This doesn't mean a person looks boring, but refers to how much their facial features conform to the average. Studies show that we find average faces more attractive because they represent a blend of many different facial features, making them more familiar and appealing. Average faces are also associated with youthfulness, health, and fertility.

It's important to remember that physical beauty is just one aspect of a person's overall worth. At the end of the day, what truly matters is a person's character, actions, and values.
