Hair loss for males and females is still a relatively taboo topic when it comes to the beauty world. Clients may feel as if they can not share their experiences, current situations and sometimes medical issues due to the fear of embarrassment, lack of understanding or simply because there is insufficient help for this difficult matter.

Hair loss can be caused by multiple reasons such as:

• Alopecia

• Cancer treatment

• Trichotillomania

• Medications

• Genetics

Although sometimes in extreme cases where the root of the hair has been permanently damaged, there are ways to promote new hair growth for the head, lashes and brows

Below lists my top 5 (personally) tried and tested products to help achieve longer and stronger hair.

1. Revitalash

This is probably the number one go to product when it comes to lash serums. Originally created to boost lash re growth after treatment for cancer, ‘Revitalash’ has become one of the most popular and fast growing lash products on the market today.

Pros:

• Tried and tested by many round the world

• Keeps the lash in the Anagen stage (growth stage) for longer allowing the hair to grow beyond its natural cycle length

• Formulated to be used on sensitive eyes (been through testing)

Cons:

• Price range - £££

• Lashes will go back to original condition and length when usage is stopped

Overall rating :

7/10

I feel that this product delivered and served its purpose. It must be used daily in order to achieve the best results and it did not irritate my eyes at all. However the price tag is a little on the higher side for my liking (munis 3 points for that!).

2. Castor oil

Castor oil can be used on the hair to increase the hair shaft flexibility by coating it, and providing antimicrobial properties. It can be used to promote new hair growth for areas that may need it, while keeping remaining hair healthy and strong.

Pros:

• Contains ricinoleic acid and omega-6 fatty acids which enrich the area being treated

• Affordable price range

Cons:

• A thick oil- can be messy when using on scalp

• Pure cold pressed can be slightly hard to find in shops/online

Overall rating

9/10

I found this oil to be really beneficial for thickening hair (lashes and brows especially) and I just from my experience using this, I saw results relatively quickly. When massaged into the targeted area it helps to increase the blood circulation, which therefore improves hair growth.

3. Coconut oil

Coconut oil can be purchased from nearly any health food store due to its broad range of usage. Being completely natural it can deeply nourish and moisturise any hair type, including the lashes and brows.

Pros:

• Inexpensive

• Long lasting (a little goes a long way with oils)

• Natural/ no chemicals

Cons:

• More for moisturising /conditioning brittle or dry hair

• Too much left on the hair or skin can cause the follicle to become clogged (less it more sometimes!)

Overall rating:

8/10

The natural fatty acids and vitamins found in coconut oil nourished the hair deeply, so I found it was better for when my hair felt brittle/ weaker. When using on my head overnight, two washes in the morning with shampoo was sometimes necessary to ensure the oil was washed out completely. However when using it on brows or lashes, applying a small amount before bed with a spoolie worked best (again washed off in the morning).

4. FEG brow serum

A more upcoming brand of brow serum that uses natural, vegan friendly ingredients to stimulate hair growth.

Pros:

• Cost effective

• Can be used to give brows a ‘boost’

• Quick results

Cons:

• Hair will return to natural state when product usage is stopped

Overall rating:

7.5/10

For the price I felt this product was well worth it’s money. I did see result, however I believe it worked best when mixed with another oil- such as castor. Application was quick, easy, and the product was fast drying.

5. Plantur 39 caffeine shampoo

So far I have only been able to find two brands of caffeine shampoos. Plantur 39 shampoo provides protection for the hair follicles and roots, preventing hormone-induced exhaustion of hair and helps to stimulate hair growth.

Pros:

• Caffeine is known to stimulate hair growth

• Can be used on coloured hair

Cons:

• Product must be left on scalp for at least 3 minutes in order to take affect - not great if you are in a rush.

• Works best of combined with the matching conditioner and tonic.

Overall rating:

8.5/10

For someone like me who has always had naturally thinner hair, I really saw a difference when using this product. It is an easy, cost effective item to add to your routine. The only down side for me was the amount of time it needed to be left on the scalp- not ideal if you are in a rush to get ready!

There are many other products out on the market that can be used to help treat hair loss; these were just some that I found worked for me and helped my condition. Thanks for reading! Han 💛
