Most Disturbing Discovery About Manicures and Pedicures

How I helped my wife cut back on nail gel polish and related allergies

ALL THE THINGS THAT BEAUTIFY

If you love gel nails and make frequent manicure appointments or try different nail polishes, you may want to slow down. Gel manicures are elegant and beautiful, so you should know that they have their own charm. I know, but hear me out.

About three years ago I told my wife that women should be more selective of the things or chemicals they allow on and into the bodies. I brought to her notice the things I was discovering all over the internet. Here is my case for why you too should look into this matter.

CAN BEAUTY PRODUCTS BE ALTOGETHER HARMLESS?

Gel nails can produce stunning colours, but they can also cause severe allergies.

If you're unfamiliar with how gel nail polish works, it is applied in liquid form and allowed to cure under a dedicated lamp specially designed for that purpose.

A visit to a nail polisher can make you look great for a couple of weeks, but how much does it really cost? A gel nail ingredient known as methylacrylic acid is a dangerous chemical that can have long-term effects on your life. You may not know that it is a substance in many other chemical materials that threaten the health of a significant portion of the world through intrusive application in the medical field.

WHY NOBODY DOUBLE-CHECKS THEIR BEAUTY PRODUCTS

How is it that you see the plastics used in gel polishes are similar to those used in dental fillings, joint replacements, cataract treatment, and even in some diabetes treatment?

Isn't this too big a risk to take? But why does this even happen and why has it become so prevalent?

Is this because of the lack of awareness and not following the procedure properly? Once you develop sensitivity to these compounds there is no going back as they can invite trouble for you down the line.

In fact, according to toxicologists, each gel polish composition is intended to be cured by a particular lamp; otherwise, the polish will not harden and instead will remain liquid, putting you at a significant risk of allergy development.

AN ULTRAVIOLET LAMP MIGHT BE LIFE-ALTERING

Frequent visits to shady nail salons increase your risk. You might find a salon that offers gel manicures for half the price of high-end salons, but the pros often mix different gel products, source cheap tubes, or use the wrong type of lamp. There is likely to be. Low-budget imitations are made as cheaply as possible to save you a little money, but they can be packed with dangerous chemicals.

DIY gel manicures grew in popularity as the coronavirus pandemic forced people to stay home and nail salons were temporarily closed, giving people plenty of time to experiment. There is a recent fad... However, most ignorant users buy lamps and gel polish from different sources without realising the importance of carefully matching these two items.

DIY HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD, BUT FOR THE DEVELOPED WORLD...

Additionally, there is a good chance that you will get nail polish on your skin while painting your own nails, which increases your risk of developing an allergy. Even if you follow all the right procedures and use the right products and lamps, you still run the risk of premature aging of your hands and, in the worst case scenario, skin cancer because ultraviolet light from UV lamps and gel polishes both harm skin cells.

Curing your nails under a UV lamp exposes your nails to dangerous radiation, so dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen. In a study published in the journal Nature Communications, researchers found that exposing skin cells to UV light for 20 minutes and more killed about 30% of the cells or more and caused DNA damage in the surviving cells.

Is that the price you're willing to pay for gorgeous nails? The damage patterns resembled those seen in melanoma sufferers.

There are a variety of alternatives available on the market, including standard nail polish and dip powder manicures.

However, this does not imply that you can never indulge yourself in manicures; it just matters more that you are aware of what you’re getting yourself into.
