Rapid change, shifting demands, uncertain resources — your current situation may make it a challenge to consistently look your best, no matter what your age. You might be working different hours, homeschooling your children, or adjusting to new and unfamiliar life rhythms. It's not impossible for you to look naturally radiant; it does take intentionality. Here are several tips to maximize your makeup and hair game in the coming months.

De-stress

Making the most of your hair and face is mostly an inside job. Your general health will affect the glow and strength of both. It's vitally important to reduce the overproduction of cortisol, the fight-or-flight hormone — otherwise, your skin and hair will pay the price. Do your best to get restful sleep, eat nourishing food, and include stress-relieving routines in your day. Try some time-honored supports for relaxation and vitality like young living essential oils.

Go For the Glow

Glowing skin and hair advertises health and is a great foundation for makeup and hair products — they won't have to work as hard! Make sure you're drinking plenty of water throughout the day — it'll plump up your skin and help keep your body functioning optimally. Otherwise, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! From coconut oil to shea butter to commercially-prepared creams and lotions, there's much to choose from — go with what works best for you. BB (beauty balm) creams serve as a moisturizer, foundation, and sunscreen all at once, and provide a healthy sheen. Argan oil and vitamin E are both great ways to bring out your hair's natural shine — glossing treatments work well, too.

Focus on One Feature

Sometimes less is more when it comes to makeup — at least when you're under time constraints. There's no need for complicated YouTube or Instagram tutorials unless you're just following them for fun! Hair and skin IRL is three-dimensional and unfiltered — a wholly different thing. You're probably aware of your most striking feature, whether it's your eyes, lips, or an impressive head of hair. Using your time to artfully highlight that feature will simplify your life and make a delightful impact. It takes just a few tools to make a striking brow, a smoldering eye, or a perfect red lip.

Work With Your Texture

Thick or thin, straight or curly, every type of hair has its own special appeal — although it's tempting to wish your natural tendencies were different. It might be time to embrace the way your hair naturally flows, without resorting to using a lot of products and heat tools. You'll probably feel freer than ever — and your hair will be healthier. Find a length that shows off your hair's natural texture with the least amount of fuss. Try occasionally using a diffuser, hand drying, or air drying. Needing a bang trim in a pinch? You can find more tips than ever online, whether they're Zoom consultations with a professional, or going DIY.

Try Accessories

In the last few decades, the variety and sophistication of hair accessories has blossomed; it's possible to find clips, wraps, bands, and other accessories to suit any style, hair length, or hair texture. The choices are almost overwhelming. Luckily, most are relatively inexpensive and easy to try. Once you've found a few go-to hair looks using accessories, it opens up a whole new world of style and convenience — if you're short on time, you've got several styles to fall back on.

Experiment!

All of the above ideas are guidelines; only you can find the best type of makeup and hair care for your unique needs. That said, it can be fun to share new ideas with trusted friends or family members. Experiment! Explore street style blogs, read up on the history of hair and makeup trends, and put a few interesting keywords in your Pinterest search box. You never know what will inspire you.

Caring for the look of your face and hair is an ongoing process. Try these tips to make it easier!
