The Story of 2020, Told through Beatles Songs
A list of Beatles songs for 2020
I think our Spotify Wrapped meant a little bit more to all of us this year. In 2020, the songs on our lists represented the songs that helped us get through the tough times. The songs that consoled us, the songs that we cried to, the songs that gave us strength. As usual, the Bealtes took one of the top spots on my Spotify Wrapped this year. Here are a few Beatles songs that represent the story of this year:
Here Comes the Sun
We started off the year with an optimistic outlook. Remember when we had that 2020 vision? This was gonna be our year. The sun was coming. We were gonna achieve all of our goals, make new memories. We had no idea what we were in for.
Norwegian Wood
"So I lit a fire." Disaster struck Australia as wildfires broke out across the country.
Her Majesty
Her Majesty, Meghan Markle, is a pretty nice girl. Meghan and Harry made the news with their decision to leave the royal family to seek a different life. They decided they wanted to make their own money, rather than living on the money they inherited, and that they wanted to live in America and the UK.
Run for your Life
The COVID outbreak began to spread. Most of us didn't realize how much it would've spread. We didn't realize that we should've run for our lives (metaphorically, of course, as we couldn't have outrun it if we tried).
Here, There, and Everywhere
China, Italy, and the United States. Soon the corona virus was everywhere.
We Can Work it Out
We were optimistic at first. If we all stayed home, we could flatten the curve. We stayed home as much as possible, and encouraged others to do the same. We masked up, we cheered on essential workers. We looked forward to getting back out after a short time.
I Should've Known Better
Maybe we should've known better. The pandemic continued and continued, despite our efforts.
Yellow Submarine
"We all live in a yellow submarine..." aka, our quarantine bubbles.
Carry that Weight
Carry that weight a long time. Eventually, we realized that this was going to last a long time.
Eight Days a Week
Remember when we started to forget which day was which? Is is Monday, is is Saturday? Is it September, is is December?
I'm so Tired
Staying at home made us tired. 2020 made us tired. For some of us, being infected with corona virus made us tired.
Revolution
"You say you want a revolution..." In the midst of the pandemic and the other struggles we were facing, the Black Lives Matter movement arose. Many of us came together, whether it was attending in-person protests or spreading the word on social media. We rose our voices for this important cause.
Help!
When the wildfire hit California, and it still seemed that we were no closer to the end of the pandemic, there was only one thing left to say. Help! I need somebody, help!
Come Together
The US still has some coming together to do, but we were able to unite enough to vote a new President into office.
Let it Be
As this year comes to an end, there is one lesson we can all take away. Let it be. So many things are beyond out control.
"When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be." We all found ourselves in times of trouble this year. But let us remember the words of Paul McCartney. While we should do our best to change the things we can, sometimes the best thing we can do is to let it be. When it came to COVID, many of us did our part by staying home. "And when the brokenhearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer..." 2021 is approaching. This doesn't mean all of problems will go away. There may still be times of trouble. But let's remember, when things happen that are beyond our control, the one thing we can control is our response.
And now, let me take a moment to thank the Fab Four for helping me get through 2020 as one of my top artists on my Spotify Wrapped. :)
