The Story In The Melody P1

Music is not about the melody. It was the lyrics that was formed into a story. A song does not just start with an instrument but with a beginning, a middle and end. I do not pick a song because it sounds good to my ear because that is what a normal listener does.

They listen to music when they are feeling down, when they are feeling good or when they feel like there is nothing left to live for. I listen to music because I want to feel all the emotions that the artist is speaking through the song. I would like to introduce you to a playlist on Spotify called The Story in the Melody Part 1.

I would love for my readers to take the time to listen to my playlist, come back to this story and learn the meanings of every song. I want to give a shoutout to all the songwriters who pieced together these amazing records because without you, it could never be brought to life.

Say Something with A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera:

a story about a breakup in which a lover is urged to say something because the person is giving up on them, with the person is expressing humility, sadness, and regret. It goes beyond relationships and into something much deeper — the regrets, worries, and significance of separation from a loved one.

Best Thing I Never Had by Beyonce:

a story about a woman who finally the true colors of her partner but instead feeling sad and regretful, she is happy about her revenge and the karma that he will receive after he has done her wrong throughout the relationship

Dancing with the Devil by Demi Lovato:

a story about the dangers of addiction and the difficulty of overcoming (dancing with the devil means to engage in risky, reckless, or potentially immoral behavior)

Here by Alessia Cara:

a story about how the artist was forced into the wrong crowd and how they are not into parties and clubs (this song is for the anti-social, awkward and miserable party-goers)

Rain on Me by Ashanti:

a story about a woman’s pain and challenges of facing and eventually overcoming, an abusive relationship and she is asking the Lord to call upon the rain to wash away the pain and suffering that she has gone through in this toxic relationship

Grenade by Bruno Mars:

a story of the never-ending struggles and anger of a man who is willing to sacrifice everything for his girlfriend. He is a brokenhearted man who has so much pain and disappointment as we can see how he hides in the dark. She has accepted all his sacrifices and his love but he gets nothing in return

Airplanes by B.O.B ft. Hayley Williams:

a story is about how the artist wishes that he could go back to the normal and simpler life that he once had before experiencing the fame and fortune of becoming successful in his career

Fall in Line by Christina Aguilera featuring Demi Lovato:

a story about dividing and conquering an agenda and the mistreatment of women in the music and entertainment (in this case, division between sexes).

Fly by Nicki Minaj featuring Rihanna:

a story about flying in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way (this is about female empowerment but not specifically females)

Love the Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna:

a story about the dangerous cycle of being trapped within an abusive, love-hate relationship

Lions, Tigers, and Bears by Jasmine Sullivan:

a story about the singer’s career in the music business that is scary and overwhelming and that she can handle but when love comes around, she is afraid of letting herself go.

Price Tag by Jessie J featuring B.O.B:

a story about how money is not everything. It is all against modern materialism when everything and everybody has a price and the more you have the more you are worth

Roar by Katy Perry:

a story about overcoming challenges and getting back up on your feet when someone or something comes along and knocks you down and moving forward into next stage in your life

Bed of Lies by Nicki Minaj featuring Skylar Grey:

a story about a lover who has repeatedly lied to the other person throughout the relationship and how that lover was inattentive and took advantage of them

Part of Me by Katy Perry:

a story about a man who is trying to damage the soul of a woman but that is a part of her that he will never be able to break

Seven Years by Luke Graham:

a story about the events of a man’s life and the things he hopes to achieve in the coming years as he grows older

Mirror by Lil Wayne featuring Bruno Mars:

a story about the downfalls of the rapper’s life, as well as his upbringing, state of mind, past choices, and personal life, and when these conflicts happen, nobody will not be there for you but yourself

Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifia:

a story about a man's grief and anger after being left behind by his lover. People that will help him out of this mess.

It reminds him of how he has relied on his partner for his emotional connections since he doesn't know where he is.

It could metaphorically mean his past self before all this drama dragged him down. He needs to contact the past to let go of his present

Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift:

a story about a woman who expresses her wish that her lover will remember her even after their breakup (a similar theme of yearning and unfulfilled desire to the story of the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald)

It All Belongs To Me by Brandy featuring Monica:

a story about two women moving on from their relationship and claiming one’s material possession and shows how much the two women have matured and grown, not only as artists but as women

So Sick by Neyo:

a story about a man who is tired of hearing love songs because it reminds him of the woman he used to love but ended up losing

Counting Stars by OneRepublic:

a story about money not being able to buy happiness and describes how addictions can get the better of someone, sinking their life in a river full of failed hopes and dreams

Stitches by Shawn Mendes:

a story about a man who is hurt by someone that they were involved with

Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis:

a story about a woman who is hurt by someone you love, but continuing to love them anyway

Wide Awake by Katy Perry:

a story about a woman gaining clarity in a situation and finally realizing a truth or reality that one blind to before

Knock You Down by Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Neyo:

a story about how love appears and changes your life, but a person must get used to it by getting back up
