The Big Summer Playlist

IMO, summer isn't summer until you've curated a super fun and extensive playlist that specifically reminds you of freshly cut grass, barbeques and ice cream galore, and getting sand in places you don't particularly want sand to be.

Every single year I put together a summer playlist, and frequently play my "pls be summer forever" playlist throughout the year to remind myself of what summer feels like. (That playlist comes very in handy during those cold winter months where you can't feel your toes or remember what it feels like to experience warmth, or happiness...anyway...)

The point is: summer is great. But music makes it even greater. So, here's a distinctive list of songs that I think should be on your BIG summer playlist!

Change - DJO

Stranger Things star Joe Keery does more than act, people. He makes banging music. Change is his first release in two years and it does not disappoint. All I can say is: vibey. This song brings good times and chill vibes into your summer. It's catchy and encapsulates the feeling of summer perfectly, do not miss out on this one!

Open Season - High Highs

I've mentioned this song in an article before but there's a good reason for it. This song is exactly how going for late night drives in summer feels. It's flowy and pretty and it perfectly reminds me of being in the passenger seat and watching the sun dip between the trees as the world passes by. It also gives a great sense of nostalgia, and if that's a bit of you then Open Season should be going straight on your playlist!

Music For A Sushi Restaurant - Harry Styles

You know this song is a summer tune when people start saying that every single travel agents/holiday adverts are going to be using this song. And it's true. Once you get past the stark innuendo meaning of this song and try not to deep it, this is a banger. Even if you claim you're not a Harry Styles fan (ha, yeah right!) you'll still enjoy this song. And if you don't...bite me.

Red Flag - Antigoni

Antigoni is a singer-songwriter who appeared on 2022's Love Island UK and although she didn't find love in the villa, this song of hers empowers single women and is truly giving Hot Girl Summer vibes. This tune just makes me want to dance around a pool in a cute bikini with a cocktail or two in hand - love it!

Stronger - Taxiride

Okay, hear me out. I first heard this song in the summer of 2005 when I watched the What's New Scooby-Doo? episode Camp Comeoniwannascareya (which btw, is a great title) for the very first time. I loved the song then and I still love the song now and for me it's just the perfect mix of summer nostalgia and the feeling that good things are on the way. It's super upbeat and it'll be a shame if this tune isn't added to your playlist!

Lemon Lime Lips - Naethan Apollo

This citrusy little number is exactly what you need this summer. It's upbeat and happy and there's just that sunshine feeling to it that you can't escape. Also, the music video?? Brilliant! This song gives me Hobo Johnson vibes (Peach Scone, anybody??) and I'm all for it - I can't recommend this song enough. Get it on your playlist. NOW.

Home - Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

This song has been around for a while but it comes back round every summer because it's perfect. If you want a song to create a montage of your summer, then this is it! Home is so sweet and lovely, it encapsulates this perfect feeling of nostalgia. Chances are you might've heard this song recently as it has become quite popular on TikTok!

Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder

I love this tune an unbelievable amount. To me this song is the soundtrack to going wild swimming in the river, or late nights in the garden with a barbeque. It's just one of those feel-good songs that makes you want to get up and dance and I think songs like that are what brings the good vibes to summer. Whack it on your playlist this summer and have a good time!

Afraid To Feel - LF SYSTEM

This song is a bop. Like that may not be the professional term, but it's truth. This song slaps, hard. No other words needed. It's a party anthem and something that needs to accompany you during every adventure this summer!
