The A to Z of the greatest Hard Rock band on Earth

The Angels have been my favourite band for over 40 years and they are still going strong today.

It has been said by many, that The Angels changed the world of Rock n’ Roll here in Australia, and started to rise to fame at the same time as Australia’s other legendary band, AC/DC.

The band was formed by Rick and John Brewster — known as the Brewster brothers — and Doc Neeson — Irish born Bernard Neeson.

Sadly, Doc passed away in 2014 from a brain tumour and he is still sorely missed, as one of the best frontman of all time.

The Brewster brothers are still going strong.

I’m looking forward to going and seeing them live tonight — Friday, 6 January 2023 — here in Brisbane. The Angels are playing in a local pub tonight and this will be like I was 18 again, vying for room down near the front of the stage; hot, sweaty, excited, dancing madly and having a fabulous time.

Here is the A to Z of the greatest Hard Rock band on Earth.

‘Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again’ was The Angels first single.

‘Back Street Pickup’ was released in 1990 and peaked at number 23 on the Aria charts.

‘Can’t Take Any More’ was the final song on their Howling album.

‘Dogs Are Talking’ was a popular hard rock song released in 1990.

‘Eat City’ is unforgettable, with Doc Neeson screaming “Eat city's gonna get you.”

‘Face athe Day’ was written by John Brewster, Doc (Bernard) Neeson and Rick Brewster.

‘Greatest Show on Earth’ which I’m heading in to see on Friday, 6 January 2023.

‘Howling’ was an experimental album after John Brewster left the band temporarily.

‘I Ain’t The One’ with the famous lyrics “I ain’t the one to judge.”

‘Jug and string band’ was the genre of the first band put together by the Brewster brothers.

‘Keystone Angels’ (The); renamed after the jug band, until the Keystone was dropped and they became The Angels.

‘Let The Night Roll On’ is the lead single on the Beyond Salvation album.

‘Mr Damage’ was written after an Angels fan who was a gentle giant covered in tattoos, who called himself Damage.

‘No Secrets’ is definitely one of my favourite songs.

‘One Word’, a cover with The Angels spin on it, originally sung by Baby Animals.

‘Poor Baby’ is a fabulous song and can be found on their Dark Room album.

‘Quintet ensemble’ with five members in the band.

‘Red Back Fever’ is The Angels tenth studio album.

‘Shadow Boxer’ is another favourite of mine from their No Exit album.

‘Take A Long Line’ numbered as 35 on one of the ‘most Australian song of all times’ list.

‘Underground’ was performed for the 1985 Oz for Africa concert.

‘Violin’ played by Rick Brewster in the original band, Moonshine Jug and String band.

‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’ is a cover version of the Animals’ hit.

‘You’re A Lady Now’ was their second single.

‘ZZ Top’s’ producer Terry Manning also produced The Angels Beyond Salvation album.

Here are a couple of The Angels songs, if you're not familiar with them. Have a listen.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I am not really a rock music fan, but these sets are pretty good. You might have actually put me on rock music. The last one created a nostalgic moment I had with my best friend in middle school.

  • Oooo, I loved the concept of A to Z!
