Fender Toronado: Not to Be Confused With Grandma's GM Oldsmobile
This is not to be confused with your Grandma’s old boat of a car, the GM Oldsmobile Toronado! This is a guitar folks. This is one breed of guitar that has both confused and interested me at the same time. When it first came out a few years ago, it caught my eye because it, at first glance, looked like an alternate version of the Jazz Master. But let me say straight up that a Jazz Master it is not... and to be fair, nor was it intended to be.

So we're heading in a new direction - gone are the bubble gum factory of the processed beats with no feeling, music recycling and four chord madness. The rise of hipster left wing veganism has yes, gentrified areas of London which maybe should have been left untouched by independent slow roasted coffee shops and rising house prices but it has pushed people back into the glory of real music. It's cool now to like good music and be individual which means (hooray!) we have people going out and searching for music. With streaming services like Spotify making this easier for the masses, it's the people who are going out of their way that are finding the truly rare and supremely talented musicians who are out their grinding for dollars and pounds with a shit amp on the street.
The Value Of Classical Music
Every modern piece of music whether it be rhythm and blues, jazz, to pop, behind the lyrics and melodies can all can be traced back to the classics. Every piece of music for centuries now has been interpreted and integrated with classical overtones. Even today's rap and rock and roll all have classical overtures that are blended in. Without the great composers like Bach, Hayden, or Mozart most of today's music probably wouldn't exist.

For more than 50 years, The Rolling Stones have been the mainstays and stewards of the Rock n’ Roll universe. Founded in 1962, this English band transformed the music world, sold hundreds of millions copies of their albums, and have sold out countless arenas, stadiums, and concert halls. The original grouping of Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards (guitar), Brian Jones (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ian Stewart (piano) together help lead the emergence of Rock n’ Roll as the pre-eminent form of Western music during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Legendary and famous albums such as Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971), and Exile on Main Street (1972) helped cement their legacy as ranking among the greatest live acts in Rock n’ Roll history.

Earlier this week I was reading up on the Renaissance for my Western World history class. The era’s prominent characters are now referred to as “Renaissance Men”: A person with many talents or areas of knowledge. As I read about Lorenzo De Medici, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci, I was stunned by their ability to master numerous crafts throughout the arts and sciences. I began to wonder if we had any Renaissance Men in 2017. It didn’t take long to realize that we do, and we’ve had one for quite a few years now.

A Native New Yorker, electronic musician Sky Vettel is creating what she calls "concept music" - pieces which evoke imagery, emotions, new thoughts and feelings. "Isn't that pretty much all music? Unless it's what's being played on the radio," she says. To her, it's slightly hifalutin but it's to the point and something easy to comprehend upon hearing it. "I want people - all types - to be able to enjoy something. You can't make everybody happy. I don't want to make everybody happy. But I think there's something for everyone." The 26-year-old has a catalogue of over 30 songs - from soothing, relaxing, progressing ambient soundscapes, to gritty smoky, urban trip hop, to upbeat, disco house - and she's not slowing down. "I'm very busy writing new material right now. I'm really trying to create stuff that's improved from my last works... you can't rush organic improvement, but you can certainly work hard at it. I'm excited at the progress in this moment, as well as the anticipation of what's to come with this." What type of music styles would you expect to hear this time around? "There's a bit of hip hop, tech house, and maybe even doo wop, oddly enough," she says. "I've always loved doo wop and just the noodling around with the 50's chord progression on the keyboard made me extremely excited!" What else excites her? "Being in the moment, enjoying everything, and of course, people's response to my music and how they feel, that's great. I definitely want to keep impressing people and make more music that they love."

In the world of the electric guitar, few guitars have been as influential to music and the innovation of the instrument as the Fender Stratocaster. In its more than 60 years of production, the Stratocaster has been used by many great players from various genres to create legendary music.

When one thinks of the history of the solid body electric guitar, Gibson is one of the first and most important brands that comes to mind. While guitars such as the Les Paul, SG Flying V, Explorer and Firebird were wildly successful either initially or eventually, Gibson also produced many guitars that are not as well remembered.
