I am going to keep my writing short because this is very much about the music. Throughout our relationship music has been a driving force for us, this is a selection of songs that tell our story and are all off one of our playlists. We make new playlist for each other every year on our anniversary and on Valetine's Day because our love and appreciation for each is always growing. As this playlist will tell...
Summer At 7 - Russ
This was our very first song and so perfectly describes the beginning of our relationship. We were both such busy and independent people but something about each other stopped us both dead in our tracks. She dedicated this song to me, it made my heart soar, no one had ever really dedicated songs to me before. I was falling so hard for her and when she dedicated this to me, I realized she felt the same.
Good Thing Go - Quinn XCII
We eloped on our 3rd month anniversary. It was just us, my kid and two friends for witnesses, afterwards we ran away for a weekend in the mountains. It was small simple and sweet, not everything went according to plan but it was perfect at the same time. Taking such a big leap so early may have seemed reckless to some but for us there was no way we were letting a good thing go.
Don't Give Up On Me - Andy Grammer
Our newlywed stage was soured by struggles from every side. Family complications, mental illness onset, financial problems, physical health issues, and emotional traumas suddenly surfacing due to all the above. While everything changed around us our love and conviction remained the same. We weren't giving up.
ILYM - John K & Rosie
We would often talk about how in the first year of our relationship we faced nearly every problem a married couple could. Truthfully though, I stayed thankful for it, it because it gave me proof that we could overcome anything together. It was us versus the rest no matter how it felt, we loved each other more than the bad days ahead.
Reason To Live - SOJA feat Dirty Heads
This song was to remind her that I am always here for her in any way she may need and that I will never give up on her or us. Often our songs were used to say the things we had already said but in a way that isn't so insesive. She knew I loved her and was fighting for her and with her against the things she faced but me repeating it could get overwhelming. So, having the song say that I will be her weapon and to keep fighting on is helpful.
Please Keep Loving Me
There was so much each of us were working through individually, it sometimes added to the stress we faced as a couple. I would be lying if I said that there weren't moments, I was worried that I was too much for her or that my baggage was too messy when we started all the unpacking.
Best OF You
We had worked through so much and came so far in the short time we have been together. We have helped each other heal generational trauma and grow tremendously as people. We continue to see the best in each other but are not afraid to face the worst together. This song embodies that.
Make Me - Dirty Heads
We argued over who would be able to use this one their playlist when it came out because we both loved it so much and felt it fit how we had come to be. We both saw and brought out the best in each other.
Make It Through The Day - Bumpin Uglies
These next two songs are our happily ever after, everyday life being beautiful, every moment being cherished. The song speaks for itself really, as well as the last song in our story.
Little Things - Dirty Heads
It has always been the little things that make our relationship and lives together so great. It isn't exactly picture perfect, but it is a perfect picture for us. There is no one else I would want to spend my life with, I can't wait to see what songs we add as the years go on.
