It's gonna be gay
...okay, so we're using the umbrella term.
Going back to my roots with a playlist-- and this time, the theme is "It's gonna be May but make it punny." Which is a twist on a twist really, since the Backstreet Boys certainly never intended for their love song to herald the coming of May.

Hi Justin.
At any rate, someone asked me for queer love songs, so we're going to use that to usher in the month of May.
I could probably make a new playlist based on this concept alone, because queer culture often centers around the idea of community. It is, in large part, because we have to create it for ourselves. This one might be a bit emotional for those who don't have support from their parents, but the general concept is this: love drowns out hate.
A lot of lesbians will be able to identify with this one. It's a bubbly bop about finding exactly what you need in someone you never would have imagined. Marielle is very good at weaving an intricate picture out of simple words, and she's one of my favorites on this list.
I don't often play songs over and over, but I'm obsessed with this one. I find mixing fight concepts with romantic concepts extremely compelling, and "Lay down my resentment/I've got better things to hold" is one of my favorite lines ever.
Hi, it's Eva again. (A lot of the artists on this list have more than one song about the subject!) This one is about loving someone in sickness and in health. It reminds me of the poem by inkskinned about loving a woman who changes with the seasons.
I don't normally enjoy songs about stealing someone's partner, but some of the stories people tell about their significant others really do have me thinking... yeah, I can be a better boyfriend than him. And I don't even think I'd be a great boyfriend. I just know more about emotional intelligence.
Okay, last super mainstream option-- who else was surprised when Billie Eilish came out with a lesbian anthem? I don't follow most artists very closely, so I didn't see it coming. It's catchy, it's fun, it's wholesome. This is another one I had on repeat when I discovered it.
I love love songs where one of the main themes is feeling nervous. It's relatable in an endearing way. I'm so glad tiktok exists--the app isn't without its problems, but I would never have known about these guys without it.
"Ask me who I'm with, I'm with them." This one is a love letter from Flavia to anyone who uses they pronouns. It tells more than it shows in a few lines, but overall it's a saucy good time.
This one gets me PUMPED. I can do both, baby. 💅 Todrick Hall and I couldn't be more different in the ways we express ourselves, but the sentiment is relatable all the same. You want masculine? Feminine? Baby I got you.

I tried to find more male-led songs for this playlist because I didn't want the title to be misleading, but if I want to squeak this in before May actually gets here then I need to post this now. 😅 Sound off in the comments if you have any recommendations- I might make another one for pride month!
